Default What ABS Scan tool works for RX300 ?

My ABS light turn on (stay on) since yesterday... RX runs and brakes just fine, brake fluid level is okey...

I did go to two AdvanceAutopartsParts to ask them to scan for the code. Nothing came up... Looks like the scanner they are using is ACTRON CP9580 - and after checking with actron.com seems that model it only support GM, Crysler, and Ford...

anybody has success of using and ABS scanner to RX300 (99) ? What brand and model ?

thanks,
Mike

I know for sure the abs has its dedicated port. [not the one near driver knees]. I have conflicting information regarding the protocol. Maybe a lexus toyota tech can answer this for all.

it appears that most scan tools only offer insight to domestic vehicles for ABS or air bag codes.

Thanks. I might end up at Toyota/Lexus to scan...

Is there a way to temporarily disable ABS ? (I don't want to be stuck on the road or something because of ABS engage...) I see a ABS fuse (looks visible okey), ABS SOL Relay, and ABS motor.

Hi

I have read the diagnostic codes by the diagnostic plug under the hood by the master cylinder. With the car off. Open the cap, remove the short pin, (Its a metal jumper,I use my fingers and it pulls right up.) carefully read the inside of the connector cap, and jump Tc and E1 with your fused* short wire. Leaving the wire there, now go and turn your key to the point where all the lights on the dash come on. (Right before the starter kicks in)The ABS light on the dash will start to flash the stored codes. The amount of time the ABS flashes shows the codes (delay flash, flash, flash, delay, flash, delay.delay. flash, flash, flash, delay, flash, flash. delay... would be code 31 and 32) after codes are read, turn key to off and remove jumper wire and re-install short pin. If you have codes 11, and 21 all should be normal.

If I recall. To clear codes, after having read codes, turn key off, turn back on to read codes again and quickily hit the brake petal 8 times in 5 seconds. If the codes are ready to be cleared, they will. If not they will remain.

I too am having problems with my ABS. I have purchaced all the shop manuals.
(I LOVE THEM!)
There is a good amount of info I would have never found easily. I am now into big dollar items to replace, and I am weighing my options of possibly getting another rx.

If you read your codes, there is a list of them it the manual. Let us know what you find.

* fused short wire. I have created my own short wire with an in-line fuse you can find at Radio Shack. I have seen people on U-Tube use a paper clip as a jumper.
-I don't think I would.

Hi Barryst,

Did you try this on your RX300 ''99 ?

It did not work on me.

Diagnostic port is just beside the brake fluid, Jump Tc and E1, Ignition on (just when all light turn-on on the dash board).

ABS always on,
Cruise light is flashing,
several seconds later the airbag light goes on flashing...

Yes, I have done this on my 99 rx.
Did you pull the short pin too?

Hi Barryst,

Right I forgot to remove the jumper (WA - WB).

This time is,
- under the hood, open diagnostic port near the brake fluid,
- remove jumper wire (WA - WB)
- short with jumper wire (paper clip) Tc and E1.
- Ignition on (just when all light turn-on on the dash board).
- looking on the ABS light
- FLASH, delay delay, FLASH. (Seems this translate to 11)
then
- FLASH, delay delay and 3x FLASH. (Seems this translate to 13).

Can you decode the 11 and 13 ?

Thanks,
Mike

Is this 11 and 13 refers to
Open or short circuit of ABS motor relay circuit ?

Thanks,
Mike

Your DI (Diagnostic Index) pages are different than mine. Are you getting information from a similar repair manual?

-You should have a manual in front of you to complete the diagnostic inspection procedure.

Guys,

Now I remember that I did get 11 and 13 (see 07-23-11 12:33 PM) because I did remove ABS SOL Relay and ABS Motor Relay the first time when trying to disable/see if ABS light from the dash board will turn off. After putting it back and driving around, and re-read the code, I am now getting 31 (ABS 3x flash delay flash) and another 31 (ABS 3x flash delay flash) - these is pointing to Front Right Speed Sensor. (I did manage to get 11 and 13 AGAIN after pulling-out ABS SOL and ABS motor relay, and again 31 after putting it back).

I'll do some resistance check on the sensor this weekend, clean the sensor and see.

Thats a better code to deal with.

31 is right front speed sensor.

Remove tire and front fender liner.
Disconnect speed sensor connector.
Measure the resistance between the two terminals of the speed sensor connector.
Resistance should be between 1.4 and 1.8 K-Ohms

Measure resistance between each terminal of the speed sensor connector and body ground.
Resistance should be 1M-Ohm or higher (Open)

I also check ac output from the sensor by connecting multimeter (set to AC voltage)to both terminals of the speed sensor connector, putting the tire back on spinning it, you will see a voltage fluctuation.

Good luck!
