Default Just installed my HID (pics)

Not very excited about them
Bought them on ebay for about $32
They are suppose to be 6000k Diamond white
but see for your self
Easy to install the driver side
passenger side I had to remove the windshield washer fluid tube (1 10 mm bolt)

I was told that there is a "burn in" process which the bulb will change color? Anyone experience this?

The pics look as if you have foggy lens covers on the headlight housings. I know mine does and it makes the stockers even llok hazy. 6k should be a pretty pure white in theory. Pics with the lights off?

Looks like he only installed the driver side in these photos....if they are both installed, then the seller seems to have sent two different bulb colors.

I actually just did the exact same mod. Which manufacturer did you get? I did Xentec 6000k.

Mine don't seem terribly blue. I actually had a bad ballast, so for now, I, too, have 1 hid, 1 halogen. but temporarily of course.

I actually am very okay with the color, I don't recall mine seeming very blue, however. Are you sure he sent 6000k and not 8000k bulbs?

Ok, so as everyone else has said before, it's true here, too.

They're not as blue as the camera shows. Though they do have a blue hint.

To help provide some context, I showed my Mercedes beside the RX300. It has factory HIDs w/ projectors. So these are NOT aftermarket.

The RX300 has one Xentec 6000k HID (driver side) and a Sylvania Silverstar Ultra in the passenger side.

While I agree in the photos the Sylvanias actually look closer to the Benz HIDs, this certainly isn't true at night. The Silverstars still have a hint of yellow, and the HIDs look similar to my benz lights.

Also, as an added bonus, you can even check out the LEDs I put into the Auxillary lights. It was a major PITA to swap out the Auxiliaries, but they look GREAT with the HIDs, the original auxiliaries look terrible w/ the sylvanias or the hids. T10 bulbs for the Auxiliaries that I used look like this:

PS - if you do upgrade the headlights, I highly recommend swapping out the license plate bulbs, too. I did and used the T10 wedge LED - just be sure you don't use ones too bright or powerful, you want to be close in brightness to your OEs. And it only took like 10 minutes at most! Mine look like this

Thanks Seth for taking time out to take pics.
I have requested the seller to send me 6000k

We will see if that makes a difference.

Not sure if the law prohibits these blue tinted ones.

Wow, so you now think he didn't send you 6000k? I guess my question is do they look as blue in person as they do in the pics? In pictures, ours look very similar, but in person I don't feel like they're terribly blue (though maybe a little bluer than I would like)

For what it's worth, OE is actually around 4500k I think.

If my understanding is correct, the law actually prohibits all of these types of HID kits, except the blue tinted ones are obviously after market, where as the whiter ones like the ones you and I want look very similar to the OE lights. And considering the cars we drive, cops will likely never suspect anything.

While odd colors is obviously one problem, I think the bigger problem, and the reason for the law is that the HID kits don't have the projectors necessary to focus/direct the light.

Though, it doesn't seem to me the light is scattering enough to bother drivers. And the light being put on the road looks better than even my Sylvanias. So I'm not worried about it.

It looks like 6000K to me based on your pictures, I used to have 6000K and when I took pictures/video that's what it would look like.

This is a picture of my 6000K and it looks almost 8000K+ but it's just the way the light is captured.

SethP, what Mercedes is that? Is it an E63?

You have good eyes Tcheung.

I found a great discussion on the colors here http://www.g8board.com/forums/archiv...p/t-27375.html

It seems the color we're all talking about is just the 6000k color. Perhaps 5000k would be closer to the OE look I think some of us are looking for.

IIRC most all OEM HID bulbs are the color 4300K, that color has the highest visible light output (to the human eye). Although the 6000K looks brighter (and I too like the color better), the 4300K color generates more output.

Thought I should follow-up with my experiences with these....

So the reason I had only one bulb in the pictures above is because I received a bad ballast for the other. Today I received my replacement ballast, installed it, was riding around today with two HID lights. Until suddenly one goes out, not the new one, but the old one pictured above. I'm not sure if it's the ballast, bulb, or fuse. But the light doesn't work right now, I know that.

So all that to say these things have been a major head ache. Having received one DOA, and the other failing in the first few days of use. I'm seriously thinking about going back to the Silverstars just so that I know they will work!
