Ive been using Pennzoil Platinum 5w30 , mainly for cleaning. No problems or noises even when it has been below zero .

I picked up the 5-20 PP, however, I'll be doing Auto RX for the next 2K, so after I flush that out, I'm switching to the PP. Something has to help with my oil consumption....Argh!

Quaker State Advanced Durability 5W-30 (aka dino) b/c that's what my Toyota dealer uses for the basic oil change every 5,000 miles and absolutely no problems. Got 237K on my '99.

Use PU in my other car every 7,500 and was going to switch years ago for my RX but my indy I use for repairs felt switching on an old car with old seals could cause leaks - I know this is debatable. But cheap Quaker State's worked fine.

Motor Oil, Transmission, Transfer case and Rear Differential, I use Mobil 1 Full Synthetic motor oil, Transmission Fluid, and Gear Oils, respectively.
Fell in love with the stuff when I was working on motorcycles for a living, use it now in every vehicle I own.

Well, I started the AUTO RX procedure today. I went to Walmart, had the oil changed back to Dino stuff and poured my bottle of snake oil, er, Auto RX in.. We'll see what happens over the next 1500-2000 miles.

Is there a problem you are trying to solve or just curious what the additive will do.

Hi Salim;
I noticed the engine started oil consumption about the middle of January. This was at the same time that I noticed the T-stat was sticking open and the engine was taking forever to warm up.. I drove it probably a month like that before I replaced the thermostat, but during that time, I was monitoring the oil consumption. Roughly 1 qt. every 800 miles or so. I'm guessing the cooler running engine may have contributed to some oil problems with the crankcase ventilation system, So, to be safe, I'm doing the AUTO RX to clean the varnish out of the crankcase(157K miles), and maybe clean the valve covers as well.

I just changed the oil again . This is the third OC using Pennziol Platinum. Before I do my next OC I plan to pull the front valve cover to see if it cleaned the varnish,I'll keep you posted.

@2KHarrier - I've had an oil consumption issue since I bought mine - and it's due to a slow leak from who knows where... From what I understand this is an standard issue for this model. I use about 1 Qt every 800 to 1000 miles, also, and consistently have little oil spots everywhere I park. I wish I could fix this problem, but I wouldn't be able to begin diagnosing where the oil is coming from without having the engine out, and I am not doing that again if I can help it. I will live with having to put fresh, clean oil into it every 800 to 1K.

Hi Bears;
I can say with certainty that I don't have a leak anywhere. The driveway and garage are both clean and drip free.

When I cleaned out the PCV breather hose, it had some oily build up in it, which led me to believe there was a breathing problem with the crankcase.

I installed a new PCV valve and cleaned out that hose that runs to the intake, so now I'm heavily monitoring it.

Here's a question: I had a '01 RX300 FWD that finally died at 249k (transmission). I now have another '01 AWD with 161k that has probably had regular oil in it. I have a gallon or so synthetic left I'd like to use. Should I mix it with regular oil or run it straight? I'm thinking mixing it with regular oil would be the best bet.
