Axel, that sound from the youtube vids is about as loud as I want to go. All the negative comments about the noise of the Weapon R has me a little nervous but I will put it on and at least try it out.

Weapon R can get a little loud from 3000 rpm on. You will mistake it for the engine or exhaust and realize it is the weapon-r. However, if the weapon-r is coupled with a more free flowing exhaust, the noise of the air intake diminishes.

Lexmex, do you think installing the cold air kit will help reduce the intake noise? I'm thinking to install the intake and if it's too loud to try the cold air tube.

The intake noise is strictly due to air flow dynamics ... with the free flow (open air) the air flow noise is not damped. Once you put an enclosure and ducting, you are partially restricting the air flow as well as the enclosure+ducting produce a chamber and noise can be muffled. By directing the intake away from the hot surfaces, you can get more Oxygen molecules per fixed volume of air.
So here are the factor and the key is to get the optimum
1. Filter itself. (fine vs free flow .. sensor issues)
2. Filter area and volume of air that can be sucked in. (surface area and tube dia etc)
3. Acoustic damping (this usually means restricted flow)
4. Cold air suction point (ducting which can restrict air flow)
Needless to say you still have to deal with air-fuel metering issues ... these numbers were set based on factory air intake.

The better combustion from cold air, the better the burn in the engine and you won't hear as much downstream from the exhaust.
Heed also what Salim brings up.
I can tell you that I have seen good cold air jobs and bad ones.

Well, I finally got it installed. I just spent the afternoon driving around and I'm very pleased with the sound the muffler delivers. I drove it on the freeway at cruising speeds up to 75 and there is no drone whatsoever. I was worried about drone, if you've ever experienced it you'd know why.
One of my biggest worries was sounding like one of those fartcans on those little cars that give a high pitched ying ying ying when you rev them up, none of that. The tone is muted, definitely there but it's exactly what you might expect in an adult driven Lexus.
Throaty but only noticeable on acceleration. I got on it a couple of times and it's strong but nothing crazy. Inside the cabin it would take a car guy to notice. Overall, I can highly recommend the 14829 for the RX300.
I think I'll go ahead and have the Weapon-R installed next week.
Here's some pics of the install of the muffler...
Gratuitous beauty shot of my sweet Brembo rotors.
