Leather Reconditioning

I have to agree with Keith, Leatherique is the way to go. I've been using it for years and even on our coated leather it is better than just about anything else. I did a week long three coat process on my seats the week I had the dye done and for 10 year old Lexus leather seats, they aren't bad.
It's fairly expensive but worth it in my experience.

Wow - ther ARE bad! Personally, I've never thought much of Lexol products - I've been using Leatherique for the last 10 years and it's kept the leather from drying out and cracking because of this. My RX300 seats have 2 problems: 1) the dye is wearing of on the outside bolster seams, 2) the creases are turning into surface cracks. I've used the water-based dye and that looks OK for a couple of weeks but then gets dirty and worn off within a month.

I've thought many times about just replacing the leather on the front seats using one of the vendors on this forum. I'm thinking it was about $700 for both front and rear, but I only need the front ones. I had the upholstery off once to replace seat heaters, so I know it's time consuming but not that difficult. I wonder if anyone here has gone that route?

Looking forward to it!

Our cars have coated leather and not much gets through but in the hot summer I did three applications over a week (I looked pretty cool driving around on a black plastic bag ). It helps some I think.
I don't think there's any question the Lexol has damaged your seats, most 10 year old Lexus have color loss on the driver's bolster but if they have been kept clean there's no carnage like we are seeing on your seats.
I did my application after I had the dye job and there is no question the Leatherique reacted differently on the dyed area, it almost beaded up but eventually dried (or soaked in). Actually, my seats were only dyed on the outer bolsters.
I don't think Leatherique can damage your leather and may help it so it is a step up from the Lexol. They suggest doing it in the summer (over 90) because even with coated leather there is absorption through seams and pinholes. With our coated leather the most ringing endorsement I can give Leatherique is that its better than Lexol and nothing.

Yes i am very pleased with the results. He had to fill a couple of the deeper scores in the leather and repaired a tiny half inch rip i had starting on the side of one of the bolsters. I was very happy with the work in general and if anyone in my area(St.Pete) is interested, PM me and ill give you his info. Does anyone know how long I should wait before I start conditioning it myself? Or should I call the guy that did it and ask him?
