replacement antenna
Went through the car wash and was too busy talking and forgot to shut off the radio or thought I shut it off and didn't. Guess what, the antenna got very badly bent. Anybody out there have this happen and if so what does it take to replace it. Can just the mast be replaced or does the entire unit have to be changed out?

Mast can be replaced and my understanding is that it can be done without opeining any panel(s).

Antenna replacement
I regret to say I did the same thing about 18 months ago...ejected a tape, defaulting the radio back to previous FM selection. Up goes the antenna, in the middle of the carwash. Nice 60-degree kink...
I seem to recall about $75 in parts, just for the mast. It's not necessary to replace the entire unit. Guess the fine folks at Lexus anticipated all of us being overcome with stupidity once in a while, and made the replacement fairly simple. Search this board for more information. I believe that there was a post about a week after I had mine replaced explaining the fairly simple procedure.
Good luck!

That looks awesome. That's exactly what I want! How hard was it to install the MDX antenna? What happens with the automatic factory antenna? Any reason why you didn't put in the IS version? Thanks.

it wasn't very easy to install. had to rmove a lot od panels on the inside hatch area. also had to dril a big hole in the roof of the rx. then run the wire to the cd player/deck (i have an aftermarket one installed). it will also work with the factory deck. yuo just unplug the old one and pluf this one in.......will also need to hook it up to the remote wire (because it is an amplified antenna).

the remote wire off of the head unit will send 12volts to the amplifier in the antenna. this will help it to bring in stations clearer.........also helps to make up for the short mast size.
