my daughter and RX300 the same age
We bought a 99 RX300 just one month after the birth of our daughter and they are now both 12 years old. Both of them are doing well and not much maintenance . I think/hope the RX300 will be around for my daughter to drive to college. The car has relatively low milage at around 90K miles and well taken care of with regular oil change with M1 and all the fluid. We got one of the most basic RX AWD with no leather, sunroof, roof rack or anything else. I like the combination of luxury, reliablity, and practicality.

It is sentimental for me to remember my daughter in the baby bucket then to the child seat, booster seat and now she can seat in the front. 4 more years and she might be in the driver seat.

Ours is a Canadian car and I suspect it was the very basic RX300 so that Lexus could advertise a lower price as the base price. However, all Canadian RX300 at least in the early years were all AWD. You cannot get a FWD. It has beige cloth seats which still look good after 12 years. I have never seen another RX with cloth seats but I was told that it is more common in Japan and other parts of the world under the Harrier name. My wife actually likes cloth seats better because it is cooler in summer and warmer in winter since the car has no seat warmer either but of course.

Carver, thanks but your car is beautiful with all the work and additions you did. The bra is a Canadian product that came via the dealer, not sure where to get it. I really like your Eagle eyes but looks like they don't work with a 99. I do my best to keep the car new and I recently discovered this spray wax called Nano wax that is very easy to put on and wipe off. The paint on the car has held up well since I don't really wax the car but it is mostly garage kept.

lol i agree. i love the luxuriousness of the leather but i would not have minded cloth seats now that i think about it. same thing going on with my drivers seat...inherited the car from my dad who NEVER cleaned the car and I'm a totally different person. the day i got it me and my friend took four hours and did a full detail...scrubbed the heck out of all the seats with leather polish. got the sheen back, but those cracks collect grime fast and its impossible to get out.

I have some aftermarket wood pieces that are beginning to show signs of fraying after about 7 years or so. That I would expect to happen, but with regular wood in the vehicle...ouch.

Cloth seats are much better in cars because they are cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. We all had 3rd degree burns on our legs and buds seating on a black leather seat that has been baking in the sun for hours. However, we have all been brainwashed that cloth seats are for "cheap" cars and leather seats are for better cars.
