Transmission or ECM? That is the question.
I have a 2000 RX300 (6/2000 FWD) with 145k. The engine was replaced at 100k due to sludge issue prior to my ownership. It had what appeared to be the signs of transmission failure - P1730 (speed sensor) code, not shifting into overdrive, and the occasional hard shift into second. First I confirmed that the speed sensors were good, then the wiring to the ECM were ok. Second, a drain and fill which showed a little to much metal. I proceeded to put in a new transmission only to have identical symptoms of P1730, no OD, and hard shifts. My only thoughts prior to taking it to someone else is swaping the ECM and all that entails. I'm looking to you folks for any other ideas? Thanks

I first tried swapping the sensors, then tested both of them (even though one of them is brand new!) and no change in code, still P1730 once I hit 30mph. I've reset the codes by scanner, fuse removal, battery cable removal, and even did the old GM trick of touching the positive and negative cables together for 15 seconds (without any power to them of course) and nothing has changed.
