Smile New member hello, and a few questions...

Hello from a new member!
I just posted in the "supension" part of the forum as well...

Here's a question... I keep getting the chromed tire stem caps stolen off my RX by kids who use them for their bikes... At $2.85 each it's not a HUGE deal, but it's inconvenient and annoying. Any ideas to prevent this? I thought about putting a little vaseline or the like on the outsides of them - hmmm...

Also, anybody know where can I get the following accessories?...
-chrome mirror covers
-chrome wiper covers
-chrome tailgate cover

Also saw a tip that said you can use paint thinner/remover and steel wool to "chrome" your grill - is that a legit tip or will it just mess your grill?

Thanks much - looking forward to your tips!

CK

Here's a link for some chrome parts.

Haven't seen chrome wiper parts for the RX.

WOW, is it me or are the prices at that site really high? $95.00 for the Luggage net? I just bought it for $23.95, genuine Lexus part.

I have been looking for the chrome exhaust tip myself, but $85.00??

Default chrome exhaust tip...

Just go to a quality auto parts store for an aftermarket chrome exhaust tip... got mine at Western Auto for $30 or so... They have an "SUV" size that fits perfectly - plus the chrome is thick so it stands up beautifully to even the brutal sand, salt, and snow that come with winters here in Wisconsin.

thanks for the link paddy... the accessories do seem a bit pricey, but you pay for what you get I guess.

Regarding the stolen stem caps... why don't you park it where you think they'll get stolen, and then put some kind of acid or skin irritant (poison ivy extract?) on the stem caps, something enough to hurt them either when they try to unscrew them, or later on. You'll probably lose the stem caps, but at least you'll get back at them.

not a bad idea, but I think I'd be worried about retaliation - i.e. keying my RX or something like that... Cheaper to replace a $2.85 stem cap than have to have a door repainted.

but hurry only 1 day left =)
Thanks Shonuff, but DAMN, can't get on e-bay from work... gotta wait until I get home tonight to see that link. Hopefully it's not too late... I LOVE those chrome mirror covers - I think that's one of the neatest accents I've seen - I always like them on the Mitsu Montero and wondered why they didn't offer 'em as an OEM option on the Lex RX.
Thanks again

Angry Valve Stems

I must admit when I first read your post, I found it amusing. Until today when I went outside and found all four of my chrome valve stems gone!! I live in a development with lots of kids, but have my own driveway. Let me see a kids bike sporting chrome valve stems....

Is it same to assume I can by replcements anywhere that sells rims?

They better not make a habit of this!!
