Default What type of new brake pads to get?

I have a stock 2000 RX 300 AWD V6 with 119K and Its time to change to new brake pads. Looking for The strongest and quietest I can get. My rotors are fine.

What kind should I get? any I can just pick up at autozone that would be great? Im using stock toyotas that came with the car.

Im going to pay someone to change them as I do not know how. how much should I expect to pay for brake pad change?

-Thanks

Hmmm. 119k-mi on the pads, rotors fine, and you are thinking of switching to something other than OEM? OEM works for me. I only have 65k-mi on my 2002.

I know I may just keep OEM but Im positive there must be better pads that are stronger
If not, Ill stick with OEM. where can I order those for cheapest?

You will, IMHO, get the best overall performance from Toyota OEM pads. Many on-line suppliers. I like

You can't go wrong with Akebono Ceramic. My experience is that as long as they are ceramic, you are good. I find ceramic pads has better stopping power than OEM. OEM pads could be the cause to rotors warping in my case. Why take the chance since ceramic is as good if not better, and cheaper, unless you have a good deal for oem pads.

Default Brake pads

I use Autozone brake pads on my '88 pickup but they eat up the rotors pretty fast. I was told that the OEM pads used by Lexus are Akebono ceramic. If you want your rotors to last, I'd stick with them. I got mine from tirerack.com the guy I talked to was very knowledgable and answered all my questions - don't recall his name offhand but the price was right. It depends who does it as to how much it will cost. With that many miles, I'd change the brake fluid too. It will only add a few more minutes to the job but could add a lot of life to your calipers which are $$$$$. The lexus garage wanted $400 to do the rear pads and turn the rotors. If your rotors have 119K, they should be turned. It costs me less than $20.00 ea. to have mine turned and the pads were around $60.00, so that leaves 300.00 for labor. I would think someone would do it for 100.00 since it only takes an hour if you go real slow. You dont need to be a Lexus mechanic to do the brakes, brakes are brakes.

I've been using the same Akebono ProACT pads for now 3 years, and one of those years was still in Mexico City. I plan to try some Axxis Deluxe pads when I come up for my next changeover to see how these function, but suffice it to say I ran the stock Lexus pads (made by Akebono), Hawk, EBC, Carbotech and nothing came close to the Akebono ProACT. They had some great grip on the track and I those pads came in very handy in bracket racing events to get a smooth but not harsh stop.
