Default turn signal flasher relay location?

I tried searching but the hits i got were for other models. I think I'm going to try to replace the turn signal flasher as the next step to troubleshooting my problem with no left turn signal https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...gnal-help.html

Does any one know where the turn signal flasher is on a 02 RX300? is it the same as the hazard flasher? Or are they different units?

thanks!

Enz- I don't think my repair manual has electrical wiring diagrams but at least from my experience in the past, the R&L sides both use the same flasher so if your R side works, it wouldn't LIKELY be the flasher. Also. from what I remember, the Emergency Flasher uses it's own flasher, because it's having to flash both sides at once and couldn't do that on a flasher designed for 2 bulbs (one side). I'll see if I can come up with an electrical diagram.

This should help: Boxed in Yellow.
Take the lower panel out---2 10mm bolts--bottom of the panel
Top panel is held by clips. Be gentle in pulling the upper side of the panel.
Then a sheild plate is covering it. Another 2 10mm bolts.
Part #-81980-50020

On the Rx 300. The hazards and turn signals use the same flasher.
The turn signal switch sends either L or R inputs to the flasher.
The Flasher then sends voltage to the turn signals.
So it's possible you have a bad Flasher. Or maybe a Bad turn signal switch

On the photo I provided. Check output voltages on the flasher connector.
Check the output voltage of the Green wire with a Black tracer--This is your Left turn signal output. Should have power to it signaling the turn signals to light up. Probably won't have any since it's not working
Since your right side is working. The Green wire with a Yellow tracer is the output to those. This is working so you should have voltage to those.

Don't forget to leave the key in the "ON" position while checking.

Thanks Nad, I learned something new today so it's a good day. The car is my DIL's so I don't have immediate access to it, only if it needs work.

^^Geeezzz...You too huh?
I kinda cringe when Family or friends call me up and ask for assistance with their vehicles. LOL !!
Although I get pissed at them when they go to a shop that rips them off on a job I could've done in my garage. LOL!!

Nad- I help anyone who needs help... as long as there is respect involved. NO or disrespect - probably see the back side of the door pretty fast, although I'll say that I have hardly ever had that problem. I just like helping people. I never charge 'em so if they can afford to take it in, go ahead, I don't want to take work from a shop when it's not a hardship for the individual. Son and DIL are always very appreciative and this son (super guy) didn't get my mechanical genes so I don't mind. I just hate seeing people get ripped off, whether they can afford it or not. My parents raised us right, so that just part of me. My wife and I are from Ill. by the way.

Thanks Nad!!!! Those photos and tips are awesome! And tnx to you too code! Between the information you guys and Lexmex gave me. I really think its the flasher. I opened it up and there are 2 separate relays within the "relay module" that's why a regular relay would only have about 3 prongs and this one has 8. The problem is that my local toyota, Lexus, and NAPA (pep, kragen, autozone) doesn't have one in stock so it has to be special ordered and its like $65. I tried looking it up online too and none of those major parts stores have em (unless I missed it), its funny that its hard to find since its the same as a 05 and up camry and 07 and up Highlander.

Any idea which place online would have it? And yes the part number you game is correct,
Part #81980-50020 and 81980-53020 would work too per Toyota dealer.

Maybe someone who switched to leds would like to get rid of their flasher? Hint! Hint!

nad, have u ordered from them before? You can't call them and u'll have to wait for them to call u. Do u know if that's an OEM part or replacement? I guess for half the price its ok.

Back in the days where I needed a part right away and would'nt pay dealer prices cause I could'nt afford it.

I would call and go to a local Junkyard.
I used to live in the city and would drive 20-30 miles if I had to just to get my 81 beater Corolla fixed. Lol...

Nad,
Got lucky today!!! Not that way! I went to my local junk shop and found a relay out of the only 2000 Tacoma they had. They didn't have any rx300/30/50/400h's or any of the models I'm going to list below. This should help anyone looking for a flasher relay. It cost me $11 instead of $65 at the stealership.

So the 81980-50020 or 81980-53020 found or our RX's are also on these Toyotas/Lexus:
Tundra 00-02
Camry 05-06 (made in Japan I think)
Highlander 01-09 inc. Hybrid
GS300, 400 98-00
LS400 98-99

So I'm guessing there's a good chance that you'll find other electrical components on these vehicles too!
Hope this helps!
Enz

Woohoo..!!!

Glad everything worked out.
Some people call it Junk.
But to us DIY's...it's priceless. Well maybe $11 for you.
