RX 300 - Master Remote key can't lock or unlock doors
My only key's remote is not able to lock or unlock doors. I changed the battery on the key and on my car, but that still don't work. Can anyone help?
Thanks!

First we need to determine, if the electronic lock mechanism work or not ... befor we get into the wireless part.
From inside the RX, when you use the lock/un-lock button [not the small lever] does the RX lock/unlock.
The small red led in the key shell should light up when you use the buttons.
Any history here? Like it was working and one fine day it stopped working.
Once we get the remote working, I would urge you get duplicates made. I hope the key you have is the master key.

In my experience after enough open/close cycles the contacts in the remote simply wear out. Has nothing to do with the strength of the key battery, proximity to the car, etc.

The remote just stop working one day, and it hasn't worked since. I never had this issue before. I can lock and unlock the car from the driver's door lock button.

Now that the button works, it means the lock actuators work. You can run another check by making sure that the key (actually by sticking it in door lock) is able to lock and unlock all doors.
Then it seems it is the wireless transmitter, (in the key shell) or the wireless receiver in the RX. The chances of failure in the receiver are less and most likely it is the transmitter part. Does the red led on the key light up when you press the remote functions? If it does then the contacts that JAB mentions are good.
Usually at that point it is time to get a new transmitter. You will find instructions on how to program the new module. Your current key [which has the remote and chip-id], should be able to let you register new key. I am making a reasonable assumption that the chip-id part still works, else you would not be able to start your RX.
I would seriously go for a back up key instead of just the module. Since the key you own is the only master key, I would put it away in a safe place. Loosing it will be pretty bad. For a stored away master it is not important that the remote function should work.
Bottom line: get a replacement key with remote and program it.
