RX300 vs. Volvo Cross Country
my sister is looking for a new car and is deciding between the rx300 and the volvo cross country. as a owner of a gs i love the car and telling her to go towards the rx300. they have a volvo now and like how safe it is. another thing they want is room they will soon have a 3rd child so they need more space. you guys have any good convincing points for the rx300 (or cross country). also any good bargaining tips (ie. i've heard saying you want to lease is a good idea to get a better price if you want to pay cash and then at the last moment say you want to pay cash and most dealers will give you the same price, or you should buy at the end of august/early sept. to get a better price). just any input would be helpful...thanks in advance.

Buying around August or September is a good time b/c that is generally the end of the model year. That's when I bought my 2000 in august of 2000 and got about 4k off sticker. It shouldn't be that difficult to bargain on the price with a new RX (so I heard on CL) coming out later next year and competition becoming more fierce in this vehicle segment.
Also, since you are having a third child, the volvo may not be a bad idea. The RX is very safe as I sure the volvo wagon is too, but you can get an optional third row-type seat in the volvo. This could be more handy for you - but I don't have any experence with the volvo so I don't know how safe or handy this third row is. It can't be very big.
Check out the MDX too, it may have what you're looking for in size. You'll probably see the redesigned RX and think "CRAP! That's just what I needed."
Good Luck,
