Default DIY roof rack

I needed to get some plywood sheets home so I made a cheap but very usable roof rack.
I have plans to modify it later to hold my small sailboat.
It worked great.

Nice job. Remember, I think the rated weight capacity is only 70 pounds.

Carrying flat boards on top, one has to keep track of the dead weight, but the bigger issue is the lift (counter to the weight). Super project! I would expand it to add a deflector in the front.

YES, that's why I made the rear rack taller than the front. I also held the speed under 50MPH, but with more agressive tie downs (to the front bumper area) and rear trailer hitch area, it should be safe to much more.

I think the 70lb limit is for the cheap stock plastic racks.. the roof structure and the metal slot mounts can take alot more.
