Default Just bought a 2001 RX300, i have a question about the transmission

I just bought a RX300 with 43,000 miles on it. Its a FWd. I just joined the forum and all i read about is the transmission problems. The car drives good right now averaging 20.3 mpg. Should i be worried about my transmission going out? Should i do a a transmission flush at 50,000 miles?

Well you have a FWD so they do not have as many chances of failure. I would say yes do a transmission flush. But don't be worried it's a Lexus if you drive it as it should be driven then it will be fine. It's good to floor it once in a while but if you drive fairly-aggressive it should be fine im on my original tranny and it's still going strong(knocks on wood) i am a fairly-aggressive driver but if you don't floor it all the time but once in a while you'll be fine. I look after my car a lot though cause im a car guy but i have never had any problems with it.Only regular stuff like oil changes, brakes, air filter, tires that's about it. Good luck on the new car. And don't worry it'll last you a life time with good maintenance. By the way how much did you pay for it?

I still would not do a flush, just a drain and fill, with possibly dropping the pan to make sure everything is good to go. There is another way to do the change it is called a transmission fluid exchange, using the car to pump the fluid through, much safer than the flush....

Thanks for the reply that makes me feel better. I paid 9900 and 537 for the title transfer. It has 43,000 miles on it and it drives great. I never floor it and i just gradually get up to speed. But the acceleration is there if i need it!!! I will keep up with the maintenance and everything. Thanks hypervish!!!

Yeah i saw where someone posted the how to on the transmission fluid exchange. He did a good job and showed all the pictures and even the exact tools used and part numbers for the pan and everything. I'm gonna do the fluid exchange at 50,000 miles

No problem, and also 9900 is a great price for that car because it has low miles my RX is running at 135,000 miles. So you should have no problem. Let me know if you have any more questions or need help with anything.
