My 2001 RX does the same thing at various gas stations. Not all the time but it's common.

What I found is that I can't pull the handle on the gas dispenser nozzle all the way in to the "full open" position, otherwise it clicks off. In other words, when you pull on the handle that makes the gas come out the fastest, I can't do that. I have to pull the handle in about halfway, the gas comes out slower but I don't have to keep restarting. This of course precludes me from being able push the little tab in on the handle and leave the pump dispensing by itself.

This seems to happen more often at Chevron gas stations.

The release mechanism is really part of the pump. If you can pump gas by holding the handle then the air escape (vent) and the down flow are good in the RX.

There are few ways you can help set the pump lock ... do not insert the filler all the way in the down hole.

Safety is better if you do not use the auto-release.
Personal health is better if you do not smell the fumes while pumping.

Default refueling issue in RX 300

Hi All, Its more like this any thoughts on that.
I can see a small pipe sticking into the side of the filler neck (which may be a vent return line) about four inches down into the neck which appears to have the end deformed from the end of the filler nozzle bumping it. This small line protruding into the neck is about 1/4" to 3/8" O.D.

Is this fuel-fill problem common to the Lexus RX300?

Pull up the parts photo from online dealers like Lexus of South Atlanta or even visit your local Lexus parts.
