Have some one verify the tail brake lights are not lighting up.

You can crawl in the footwell area and see if you can replace the switch. Depending upon how flexible your body is, you can assume the astronaut lift off position with legs on the seat.

hi Salim
Do you know whether there is any dyi out there on the removal of the stop brake light. I can see it and touch it, but I don't know what I have to remove to get to it.

I'm pretty sure it is just the plunger type. You would remove the electrical connector and unthread the jam nut.

I had the brake light switch replaced by my mechanic. I couldn't figure out how to remove it from the brake pedal, but he did.

Is something going around or something? I just changed out my break light switch this afternoon on my 1999 es300. The thing that worries me is the fact that that was the second one in a year. Do you think it was a faulty chineese switch or could there be an underlying problem here?

Hi guys, I got the same gear shift lock on my 1999 gs 300. I went ahead and replace the brake switch and it didn't help. Does anyone know what other solutions to the shift lock. Please help

The wisdom on the net must always be used as a guide.

If you can use the override then the problem is with the regular release ... brake switch, wiring, release relay or the adjustment of the switch or the adjustment of the relay.

You can eliminate some by observing the brake tail lights turning on when you apply the brakes.

Advice totally worked for me. Brake lights are intermittent. Now I know how to solve the problem. Thanks for all the suggestions.

A slightly related but annoying issue is the third brake light being intermittant and sometimes showing a brake light warning symbol in instrument cluster. I have little time to research this issue right now, but both my 2000 RX and my wife's 97 ES have developed this as the temperatures decline. I replaced the RX center brake light bulb, only to find the socket very loose fitting. Any body else having fun with this?

I have that problem sometimes and very cold weather. Firmly pushing the shift lever 45° angle to the right that's up and right usually and then pulling it down fixes the problem.

Default My Shift lever gets stuck in the Park until i press the shift lock button

My car gets stuck in the Park position, the ignition starts but wen you depress the brake pedals, the shift lever wouldnt move. from the previous review, brake light switch, fuse and bulbs were suggested, but mine seems to be working.
My 3 brake light bulbs are lighting on when i depress the brake pedals, so the brake lights are working.

Though the Replace bulb light stays on even before problem of the shift level.

Can i know where the fuse is to check, also what is the expected ohm rating of the brake light bulbs since it was suggested on this forum that the ohm rating difference could lead to the permanent replace bulb light on the dashboard.

Kindly provide a permananet solution to this so that i dont need to press the lock button everytime

Have you looked at the solenoid yet?

Pop out the little plastic cover top left of the shift panel (as mentioned earlier). Not sure if this is independent of the brake/shifter solenoid interlock

I struggled with the "unthread the jam nut" portion.

It was actually simple: a quick 1/4 counter clockwise turn of the assembly released it then I slid it out. New one was slid in to make contact, then a 1/4 turn clockwise locked it in.

Can't test because battery went dead. Hope it is the fix.
