Now, it's not that easy to take off the intake manifold to see the gunk that this kind of burning-it-in-the-combustion leaves behind, but taking off this black baffle piece (particularly this side that is open, will show that a lot of oil residue is left behind by this system. I recently cleaned out this black baffle piece thoroughly and an examination just before I installed the crankshaft hoses revealed no residue thus far. That's good, but in the past I have had the issue, perhaps from the type of oil I was using, but haven't seen as much an issue with the Castrol 0W30 as I did when I used to use Mobil 1. This also bodes well if I want to add the tiny air filters so that more than anything, just the vapor goes out.

I later capped off the entry point on the intake manifold with a rubber cap. What I actually did first is wrap the entry point with some duct tape and then put the rubber cap over it so that it held solid.

I also capped off the side for the front crankcase and merely attached hose to the OEM piece that normally hooks up to this now capped area.

And extended the hose to here.

At a point right on the side of the transmission.

Again, based on what I have seen thus far, I haven't seen much residue in the two areas where these hoses lead to, leading me to believe I can safely go to the air filters and trim these hoses short. My uncle thought that I actually might need to have this system connected to the intake to have the engine vacuum suck the gases out of the crankcase, but thus far haven't seen an issue, and with the hoses shorter and the filters attached I expect the chance of an issue to be less. The fact that the other person uses this on their Sienna probably bears this out as well.

This afternoon I added two small APC air filters in place of the earlier hoses.

This is the filter hose and PCV valve intended for the rear crankcase. It is about the same length as the OEM hose from the PCV to the intake manifold. I had to add some some vinyl tubing in order for the tubing to fit snug into the filter. The black vinyl tubing is too large for the 12mm entry on the air filter.

This doesn't look as aesthetic as I would want it to be, but it serves its purpose. I had to wrap some cloth utility tape to get the hose correctly attached to the filter and then added a plastic tie I found lying around.

Here you can see it with the PVC valve.

And for the front crankcase. I ran out of plastic ties, so I had to use a piece of string. The filter also has to be attached to the hose with cloth utility tape.

Another shot of the area.

I took it out for a spin tonight when I went to walk the dog at a local park here and it starts up and rides just fine. Only thing I have noticed is a P0171 error, but I blame that more on the air intake modification I showed earlier in this thread and I may to do a minor modification for daily driving. However, apart from the CEL, I don't notice any jerking near stops nor starts due to too much air entering. If you ignore the CEL, it rides quite normally and accelerates VERY well.

I also made one other small modification due to a broken part.

This is my grill just a few days ago. We will be focusing on the piece between the hood and the bumper.

The change is due to the fact that for a few years now, this part of the grill has been broken. Despite attempts to repair it. I have seen it for about $40 USD or so on rockauto and I know dealers sell it for about $90, but for some minor cooling reasons I am going to keep this piece off. Don't worry about the hood latch. It can't be opened unless you pull the release in the passenger compartment.

One final thought on the crankcase vent filter modification.

I am disturbed by the way that the OEM setup works shooting oil vapors/gases from the two crankcases into the intake manifold AFTER the MAF sensor, because the MAF sensor I don't think can rightfully taken into account the hotter air charge nor the vapor that goes through, while the ram air coming via my modification is taken into account since it comes before the MAF. I am hopeful that this modification improves my fuel economy, even if just a bit along with a small kick in hp.
