Fuel economy much improved after tune up
I had new plugs put in at the local Toyota garage yesterday. As soon as I picked it up I reset the info button. Prior to the tune up, with about 200 miles of mixed driving of about 75% city 25% highway, it read 21.5 mpg.
After one day of city driving, only about 20 miles so far I am averaging 26.1 mpg. It was mostly in low traffic, not a lot of traffic lights, but it was encouraging nonetheless. I'm certain it will come down some over time, but still seems good.
The biggest thing I noticed with the new plugs besides the fuel economy increase is the low rpm power increase. Before it was literally 'dead' at low rpm. Now it will cruise and maintain speed at very low rpm.
If anyone is wondering how it's possible to get 26mpg in the city, you might consider me a 'hypermilage guy'. When my girlfriend drives it she brings my average way down below 20mpg. She doesn't get the concept of coasting to traffic lights that you have to stop at anyway, and allowing the car to begin momentum before accelerating.
