Default Braille Battery

Here is what I ordered for my other car since its battery is dying.
I will definitely try to install it on RX if I have the time and energy. Especially for our friend Lexmex. Braille told me this model should fit most cars.

That's what my buddy put in his Vette, the 21 pounder. It is not a big battery and was a bit smaller than his stock GM battery (about the size of the OEM RX300 battery). Their headquarters are just south of me in Sarasota, so we took a trip down there to buy it. I am actually thinking about getting one of their lighter batteries for my RX, but just waiting for the Optima to hit the fritz (which I have had for 3.5 years).

Braille told me smaller and lighter model would have less juice capacity and need their universial fit kit to work.
CCA around 550 is what other cheaper and heavier batteries offer. So I would not want to go below that.
Shaving off more than 20 lbs of dead weight is welcome, considering the gas saving and better acceleration and braking over the entire life of the battery.

They do have a bit less juice capacity as you go down in weight. I think one of them was to wide for my friend's Vette so went with the 21 pounder. They also seemed to have less height.

Autozone can bench test the battery and charge it for free.
I had Autozone Duralast, which is made by Johnson Controls, CCA is 600, Cranking Amps 750, RA is 110.
Braille battery juice capacity is just a little below Duralast, just 20 pounds lighter and $100 more expensive.

A light weight battery can help those with bad backs and weak biceps as well. Though it does not advertise its reserve capacity, so its longevity is questionable. Also it's 1yr free/2yr pro-rate warranty is short compared to other batteries in the market, typically 2-3 years free replacement with up to 8 years pro-rated. Hope it works out well for our friend TunedRX300.

My 6.5-year-old Matsushi-ta OEM battery shows no sign of aging. The last battery load test also checked out fine by Lexus. When the time eventually comes, I'll definitely replace it with OEM (if I can find it.)

Someone just paid $110 at Lexus dealer for an Interstate battery manufactured for Lexus. Factory installed one lasted me the shortest, only 3.5 years. To those who understand performance, lighter means the engine will be able to provide the same acceleration rate with less gas. That is efficiency.

I'm a bit skeptical of very light-weight batteries using the same (i.e., lead/acid) technology.

Years ago, they used to sell nickel-cadmium batteries for cars. Not many sold in the US, since they were very expensive and maybe needed a special voltage regulator. I think they still use nickel-cadmium wetcell batteries in airplanes, so I bet they weigh less than lead-acid.

I can understand the trade-offs of lead-gellcell batteries and lead-acid batteries with cylindrical (rather than rectangular) cells. You might be interested to know that the old AT&T (Western Electric Co) favored cylindrical lead-acid wetcell batteries [just like they favored horn microwave antennas instead of dish antennas].

Anyway, the weight of car batteries is mainly lead and battery acid and it's a well-developed technology and they don't add these things for no reason. I don't think the weight of the plastic case is significant. There have got to be trade-offs in my opinion.

Perhaps I am naive, Braille indicates it is using Enhanced Mat Technology to increase more surface area on the lead plates. More surface area means less lead to generate power, which translate into weight saving?

Tirerack has $181 plus shipping with mounting bracket and hooks included.
The 21 lbs one is sealed, you can mount it standing up or sideways because the brass posts can support both.
I bought it from Braille directly, they individually tested each battery, the one I bought had 842 cranking amps instead of 742.

PCA and CA, they are good measurement for my usage, which is the ability to start a car in non-freezing weather.
