RX300 Steering Colume whine
Greetings fellow Lexus owners!! Wondered if you can help. I have a Lexus RX300. When I turn the steering wheel either direction with the motor running (either driving or sitting still) I hear a whinning noise...doesn't matter if I adjust the tilt wheel...still whines. Any ideas?

Welcome to ClubLexus. There is a rubber gasket where the steering column passes through the firewall, visible from under the dash. It has been written up that this can cause noise when the steering wheel is turned. The solution is to lube it (the rubber to steering column interface) with silicone spray or grease. I'm assuming that this is the type of noise you're hearing.

Thanks for the reply...I will check that although when I hear the noise it does not appear to be coming from up under the dash where the steering colume goes through the firewall....it sounds like a "cat whinning" and it appear to be coming directly from the steering colume in the area behind where the steering wheel attached to the colume....the whine is very precise (louder when you turn wheel more - either left or right) and is not intermittent.
