I see nothing wrong. The oil sludge has nothing to do with the combustion chamber.

Do you know if I have to remove the timing cover to get the front valve cover off?

I assume you are going on a sludge hunt, so you don't have to remove the timing cover.
Agree with Salim, your plugs look fine.

Yeah, I realized. For some reason, I've panicked lately over the sludge talk and everything I see or hear is automatically sludge!
