Hi everyone. I posted this question a while ago but I can't seem to find it...if I have a FWD, is there any gear lube oil I should be changing when it comes to the transmission? I already do a tranny fluid change every 10,000-15,000 miles with Toyota Type 4. Thanks in advance.

Also, does anyone know how much a usual Idle Air Control Valve change goes for? I'm pretty sure mine is pooping out on me.

Oh yeah (I haven't changed the tranny fluid filter before and I want to do it this time) if I were to purchase the transmission fluid filter...should I just purchase the filter or is there other things I am supposed to purchase with it? There is a website that lists the filter for $44. But the filter KIT is $78 and it comes with an O-Ring and gasket for what I believe is the pan. Can anybody tell me if the kit is recommended/necessary?

No, you don't have to worry. Gear oil is only pertinent to AWD models and then only to the transfer case and rear differential, which you don't have.

The IACV from my recollction runs a bit over $200 USD.

You need the filter and the gasket. See the thread at the top of this forum by TunedRX300 and he shows this. The O-ring you don't need.

My car is 2000 RX300 AWD. On another note, I will be changing the transmission fluid next week, I purchased a kit for it. I'm curious to see what the inside if the catch pan looks like. Thank you for the reply.

So far I have 180k miles on my 2000 2WD. I purchased it 2 years ago with 143k miles. So far, no problems. I know the transmission was rebuilt right before i bought it. I've heard that is common with these cars at around 150k miles. The engine feels like it's good for 300k miles.

Common around 150?(for trans.) I have seen posts on here where it goes at 80k.And doesnt seem to matter how much maintainance was done either.I know im praying.:< Of course I slipped it a micky with some lucas trans. fix (so far ,so good)and it did improve shifting too.

I think hundreds of thousands of them make it to 150K. The net is deceiving since most of the people that are posting are *****ing about problems. I'm not saying that the trans is not the weak link and should have been upgraded. Just the numbers look much worse than they really are. All of the buyers guides rate the trans as excellent. I guess what I am getting at is if there are a little over 500k units out there and 1/2% fail, then you will have 2,500 people saying that the trans will die an early life.

Sorry to be off topic, but I'm chuckling about your "slipped it a micky" term. Havent hear that one is a long while.

Regarding Lucas trans fix, was your trans showing signs of going? What mileage were you at whey you added the Lucas fix and how has it run afterwards?

You like that hugh?Well I have about 85,700 AWD, my first to second gear is like the old 2 speed power glide.The lucas helped with that,and also comming to a stop,but not stopped all the way,it doesnt search for the right gear now like it did before.I only added about 1/4 of the bottle at around 84,900 miles.

I would also like to add,even before I added the lucas treatment,my 1st to 2nd gear doesnt always do that.Sometimes its fine.(cant figure that one out)unless its a solenoid issue.

Reason I ask: 1) our RX is quickly approaching 80K. Not that means anything regarding trans, but always good to know what problem symtoms of the trans to look for. 2) I read where some users of Lucas said it caused problems.

On the flip side, there's good debate on whether those transmissions were on the way out and the owners tried lucas as a last ditch effort, but it couldn't save a trans that was going down hill regardless.

So i decided to go on line and do some research about how many Lexus owners were having transmission problems with their RX300. Come to find out that it didn't really matter if the car was FWD, RWD or AWD, they all had problems. What really made a difference was the conditions that they where driving under. Snow, extreme heat, heavy towing and racing all played a major roll in what type of problems that they where having at the time. So! don't go out and sell your Lexus just yet, after all Toyota's and Honda's have the best cars in the market today, and the re-sale value in great. "Let me say that's my opinion". I'm on my eighth car, I owned Honda's, Toyota's, Ford's, Nissan's, Chevy's and a triumph tr7. All my cars had problems, But my Honda and my Toyota was virtually trouble free. Right know I'm driving a 2000 RX300 AWD with 93k on it. The car drives great, Let me ad that no special care has been done with the transmission. Like i said before it all comes down to what type of driver are you and what conditions are you driving under.

Let me say their my good man,inspite of the trans.,air flow sensor problems(wich I believe last longer on premium fuel)and mass air sensor,I still believe the RX is a very nicely built and refined automobile,and I will definately consider another one in the future.I like very much the way it drives.Also,if you check out consumer reports,it is rated extremly positive. :>

just re-enforcing what our friend said. I also went to consumerreports.org and checked out the reliability reports for the RX300, and I'm happy to say that all models had great scores. I will definitely purchased another rx300 or rx330 in the future, I'm super happy with this car..Thanks their Lexus114 i got it.
