Question VSC light, the TRAC OFF light and CEL

These keep returning on my 03 RX300 (114k miles). Any ideas?
Replaced the gas cap but it still doesn't seal correctly. Looked closer at it and there is a strip of plastic around the mouth of the fuel tank where the gas cap meets it. It is not fixed in place. It rotates but does not come off. Looks to me as if it may be interfering with the seal. Is that piece of plastic meant to be there? If so, what does it do? I have an 89 Toyota Pickup with 230k miles on it. No piece of plastic around the mouth of the fuel tank. When I turn the gas cap on my toyota, I can hear the seal opening. It sounds like a sigh. No sound at all when I open the gas cap on my Lexus. So, something is interfering with the seal. Any ideas? I don't think it's the gas cap because that's brand new from Lexus.

Also, when I do solve this can someone point me to the post about removing the ECU fuse to reset the dash lights? I have a feeling I may have to do that a few times before I figure this out. Thanks.

Other scary code situation was after I replaced ECU, having just been reflashed. I forgot to plug in one harness set and my car really did not like me, wouldn't shift right, A/C was blinking. Scared the crap out of me. After doing a little research, many people pointed to the ECU. Took only minutes to see I missed a harness. Thank heavens.

I currently am "borrowing" my dad's AutoTap which I use with my laptop to read and clear codes on the car. I heart OBD2.
I'm replacing parts one at a time. Before I get nickle and dime to death, I will try this.... Will get back to y'all either way.... Cheers Bob

Don't know if it will help you. After I changed the TPS, the light came back the next day. Ran the codes VVT-I = Variable Valve Timing came up. Purchased two from E-Bay, Under$30.00 to the door. Installed them a week ago. No Code. No CEL... Running good again.

I had P1150 late the night before a planned 3000 mi road trip. Found out O'Reilly's in KS will do a free scan for you. Replaced A/F sensor bank 2 sensor 1 with a Bosch sensor. A mechanic acquaintance told me their shop always uses OEM sensors because Lexus' are finicky - so I took along the old one (just in case it was cleanable) and a new code reader.

7 days/1500 miles later the CEL came on again. Different code though (don't remember what offhand), it turned out the Jiffy Lube guy pulled the vac hose loose from the back of the air filter plenum. Was really glad I decided to buy that reader because O'Reilly's in SoCal wont do free scans - or even paid ones!

FWIW I also had VVT, bad fuel return canister, and check your gas cap (even though it was secure), but those were all before I got the reader.

Shorting which terminals?

Just adding my 2 cents in case one of you get this P1130 (replace oxygen sensor) code. I haven't drive my RX extensively (no more than 6 or so miles in a month) for more than a month so this error came on one day. After I drove it around a high speed for 30+ min, the error went away. Regas the car with newer gas and the error has not return after couple of months. My crazy guess is that either the gas went bad or deposit accumulating on the sensor is causing the error.

Long time owner, very infrequent poster here. One problem I've always had with mine was that I'd occasionally (probably once a year) get either a system too lean code and/or bank1 too lean or bank2 too lean code, and occasionally a misfire code with it as well, and the VSC light coming on with it. The motor would run terribly whenever I reset the ECU, until the ECU adjusted the short/long term fuel trims to compensate. The car gets very little miles put on it (probably less than 5k miles/year). I'd always jump to conclusions thinking it's some sort of vacuum leak, etc...but every single time it turned out to be a dirty MAF sensor. At first, I thought it was because of the K&N air filter I had in there, but it's been a long time since I've taken it out and replaced it with a standard filter. Unfortunately, I still got a dirty MAF. Just a quick spray with some MAF cleaner and she's running like a champ again. For anyone that has system/bank too lean codes, one thing I would suggest is to check their MAF sensors. Cheers!
