Door Ajar Dash Light WOn't turn off?
Hi folks. The "door ajar" light on my dash has come on and now i can't get it off. I've triple checked to make sure all doors (and rear hatch) are closed securely, and can't fugure out how or what is going on. It "dings" all the time and I can't use the remote to lock all the doors, because it thinks one is still open. And I worry the battery will die with the light being on 24/7.
Any ideas? Thanks,

How about the other indicators of door ajar ... cabin lights?
The only thing the above will help in is narrowing down where the problem may be.
If the cabin light turns on then the dash indicator is not the problem. It is either the door switch or the ecu.
You can also try disconnecting the battery for 30 min or so, to clear out any software hangup (not sure if this will work).
Since there are five sources (each door + hatch) it will be hard to diagnose.

I dont have the wiring diagram, but this is what I expect.
Door (including hatch) sensor send a signal to ecu (I assume). The ecu then sends the signal to cabin-light and dash-bulb + sounder (soft gong).
So looking backwards, it would be the ecu or the sensor. [Try the soft reset by disconnecting the battery].
Door sensors in other Lexus vehicles is built into the closure mechanism. Again going on a limb, the rear hatch on RX would be in the latch mechanism. The doors may be old fashioned push button on the jamb.
At each door (including hatch) there will be a connector. You can try unplugging one at a time. [Each sensor used to provide path to ground ... which may not be the case in RX]. If you can post wiring diagram I can help you debug.

Wiring diagram shows how the electrical connections and wires as they run. By looking at the diagram I can tell if the sensor grounds the sigal or sends 12v switched to the ecu (again if they go to ecu).
Since you and I do not have access to one, you can try jiggling the sensors ... look around the door jamb to see if there are any push button switches. If so work them by hand and see if the door ajar warning goes away [the cabin lights tend to stay on for 15 secs or so and they would not give you instant feedback. You just might luck out and find the offending sensor.

Today, I was able to verify that RX300 has no push button to determine door ajar. We can safely conclude that the door latch mechanism has the door ajar switch.
Hint: Browse through photos of the opened up door ... Lexmex may have posted some on window regulator .. and see if you can spot the connector leading to the door latch mechanism

My Merc Sable does this from time to time, mostly in the winter. I shoot some WD40 into the mechanism and slam the door a few times and it usually "fixes" it. I would give that a shot before tearing into it.
