Gear shift console light out
Hi!
Was wondering if anyone could help me out.
I have a 2001 RX300 which has the gear shift light out (not on the dash but where you actually shift ). Can't see P R N D L1 L2 in the dark. Also the green light around the key ignition is also out. What do you think is the problem? Thanks!

Yes, funny, I too was just looking at that the other day trying to recall if the shift indicator next to the shifter was supposed to be lit, it seemed odd it was dark there. Hoping this one is easy to replace. And I just lost the D-light on the instrument dash area that has been discussed on other threads with some great DIY posts. FWIW, my green ignition key light is still on, how long?
I wish Lexus were using longer-lasting bulbs for these hard-to-reach areas, my car isn't even 5 years old.

Mat, thks, I need help with how to get access to that area to change the bulbs on the shift console, haven't searched CL yet. Tell Lexus to use high-voltage bulbs or something that will last a real long time.

There indeed is a light in the shifter area because I just checked mine and it's lit. I have never changed it, obviously, but looking at the area, it would take a minimum of removing the whole bottom area of the area and then possible some side panels. I've replaced the dash light, and it took a while for that. It's just me, but when I shift, I don't really even look at the shifter, I look at the gear selector on the dash. I would say the effort might not be worth the gain of having the shifter area lit.
