Default Harrier in Ice

From our friends in Russia,

http://forums.drom.ru/showthread.php?t=1150913245

Apparently this was by Lake Baikal (deepest lake in the world) and nobody drowned.

I had to use Google's Russian to English translator, http://www.google.com/translate_t?langpair=ru|en

I have been spending some quality time reading this RX forum, http://forums.drom.ru/forumdisplay.php?f=124

and also this one http://www.club-lexus.ru/forum/viewforum.php?f=7

Very interesting what RX owners do in that part of the world.

This was also interesting, I found a better picture of the fitting of that TTE Compressor for the RX300 from this posting, http://www.club-lexus.ru/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2336

Russian traslator will be no use -- there is too much Russian slang. Let me translate some of it for you:

A trip on frozen Lake Baikal on Harrier. We wanted to snowboard holding to the rear of the truck. It was really close to drown the Harrier. He's a good fellow. I am, like, proud of him! Although he got his butt wet, he was able to get out.
------- Comments -------
You should risk like this. Baikal does not give the bodies back. There are so many cars drown on it every year – it is just freaky.
---
I like my Harrier and I also like my snowboard. That is why there are roads for Harrier and there are hills and mounts for snowboard. Did this in Irkutsk near Baikal last fall…
---
First we decided to snowboard off a hill, and then made a decision to go extreme.
Usually normal people don’t go to ice on their vehicles. The ice has non-uniform thickness. In this case the truck’s front wheels flew over a crack, but the backend did not make it thru, that is why it fell thru ice.
---
Ough, it is unbelievable how Russians like to jerk off on their fate.
---
I would call this retarded. There are plenty of places here to go snowboarding. For example Mamai. (Blah-blah-blah…)
---
Did you get out yourself? On the picture there is a towing rope seen, so you had to pull it out?
---
Not really :-) the rope was just for backup in case ice gets chops off.
Actually we had to pull Harrier’s butt off the water to the make it the same level as front wheels, and then quickly drove it forward so all four wheels stay on ice.
---
RealTV on NTV (Russian TV station) just showed an episode about how an SUV with its driver drowned on Lake Baikal…
---
Yeah, right! Harrier is just a super truck so ice isn’t really needed for it to drive over Lake Baikal… that is *****ing miserable

It is a german compressor from TTE:
http://www.tte.de/downloads/brochure...compressor.pdf

Here is some translation of that guy's post:
The kit includes units for correction of ECM and top-speed limit removal, filter of zero resistance, cold air intake radiator, an extra grid for the front bumper, compressor itself, relays, lots of pipes (aluminum and rubber), and even the oil dipstick was replaced. Also the air throttle system is now look different (you need to see it).

It is a TTE Compressor, http://www.tte.de/popup/cm_lexus_RX3...pressorkit.htm

As far as if it can fit, RXs have dual throttle bodies and you have a single, but looking at the picture above, this doesn't seem to matter. I am still trying to figure out how it connects over to the throttle body from the airbox given the way that the big tube comes over from the left side of the engine.

And boy is it ever expensive, http://www.lexus-parts.com/partdetai...CategoryID=102

There was a guy over on LOC stating he could bring it in for $9K. Then, there was a guy on the forum a few months back in I think the Canary Islands who was also mentioning a figure around 6 to 7 K USD.

In Mexico, the aduana (customs) would toss a huge tax, of around 3K or so, though it is only supposed to be 30% maximum.

Can you just put the kit in your trunk in LA and drive over the border? I know, it's like 20 hour trip, but anyway...

You can...but it is hit/miss proposition. They could/red green light you (right at the border, and then a little further south where you need a special permit if you want to drive your vehicle).

I know a guy who brought in engines this way, until one they caught him and the bribe didn't work.

Better thing to do since you are driving up there to go get it, is to get it installed up there.

Except for brake pads and a few small maintenance items, virtually everything I can get in Mexico.
