Default Fuel Injection Service/Power Steering Flush

Just had my 80K service completed at my local dealer on my '01 RX. My advisor recommended the following:

1. Fuel Injection Service $164.00
2. Power Steering Flush $169.00
3. A/C Cabin Filter $79.00

Does this sound about right for the above services? I saw the A/C filter thread and may just change that myself. I also thought about calling the local Toyota dealer to see what they would charge for #1 and #2.

I'm not the least bit surprised (or shocked) by the dealer prices.

Changing the ~$22 cabin air filter is a 2-minute job. I just returned from spending the winter in So. Florida. Otherwise I would have offered to help you flush the power steering fluid. That's maybe an hour DIY job, including cleanup. I did it last year and probably it won't need it again for five years.

I presume the service with the fuel injection system is running the engine while they have a machine drip in some fluid over a few minutes. I had this done at a local Toyota dealer last year for about $100. I was trying everything to bring the gas mileage back. [I think replacing the MAF sensor is what solved the problem]. I think I've seen ads for a power steering flush at the local Toyota dealer for about $80.

Your options are basically DIY, find a good lindependent mechanic, find a local Toyota dealer who will do the work, or go to a Lexus dealer. I still haven't found a good independent mechanic in my local area. The moonlighter recommended by the FLA CL forum apparently didn't find my routine maintenance items interesting enough for him to get back to me. I got the impression he prefered customization/race-tuning work.

not all dealers are the same, no charge for a/c filter replacement. the other services are mostly labour so the shops door rate will dictate price.

Got the power steering flush and fuel injection service done to day at the local Pep Boys Service Center. Both services with tax was $105.00. That saved me a few bucks versus my Lexus dealer.

Also, I found the little door for the AC filter. I just have to go out and get the filter for $15.00. That's a far cry from $80.00!!

Thanks for the replies.

Think of it as educational fee. However, if you read the Owner's Manual, you will find step by step cabin air replacement instructions with pictures
