is there anything else that needs to be inspected when replacing brake pads that has to do with the braking system or anything related to it? are there any other related parts that typically deteriorate or fall out of place?

Everything needs to be inspected.

Rubber boots seals, moving metal parts ,,, look fro rips/brittleness/scarping marks..

The flex hose needs to inspected for abnormal bulging and it should not have any cracks.

I generally inspect the whole suspension when the wheel is off.

thanks, salim.

i knew about rubber seals and bushings. i probably should have said anything that isn't already in the DIYS. do you know of any good resources to learn about how to inspect the rest? i doubt any of my surrounding parts have ever been maintained.
