Each manufacturer/tranny has its own requirement on tranny fluid viscosity and friction characteristics, thus each has its own type of fluid. Make sure that you use the right one.

Therefore, no one ATF can work in all trannies. If a certain brand is making such a claim, you know what to do... steer away from it.

In any auto forum, you'll always find those "independent distributors" who try to sell you a certain ATF. They'll hook and reel you to their eBay account. Don't fall for it. And these people generally fiercely attack those who tell the truth about ATF.

(Some types of Mercon and Dexron fluids are compatible with each other, that's only because they happen to share the same viscosity.)
