MPG 02 RX300 Front-WD, No AC, 50/50
Hi Everyone,
Do you know what I need to check, fix to increase the mpg. It was going roughly between 17-20, and recently I pulled the fuse to get better performance, and it did; however, the mpg is drastically decreasing to between 12-14. Driving habits were the same as before, 50/50 highway and local streets. The vehicle has only 30k miles. Air filter replace, tranny oil drained refilled, 4k oil change, tires pressure is at 35psi. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks much.

I would also clean off your MAF sensor, on the tube leading out of the air box toward the throttle body. Clean the red diode.
Generally, after I reset the ECM my MPG also goes down at first (even when I do a highway trip) and then improves. I estimate based on my experience this really takes about 200 miles (though some say) 100 to relearn how you drive. I donīt like the adaptive transmission too much (pain for my racing habits).

Re: MPG 02 RX300 Front-WD, No AC, 50/50
Dirty MAF meter was my problem when the mileage on my 2001 RX 300 (AWD) went down to about 15 from 19 mpg. The mileage started dropping and after a month, the "Check Engine" light turned on. Code check revealed P0174 (system lean, I think) and realized that the MAF was one of the probable causes. Cleaned it, cleared the codes and mileage went up to normal. Be very careful cleaning the dirty diode as you may accidently break it. The forum has a few posts on other's experiences.
Lexmex is on the point with the ECM reset and the time it takes to show the correct MPG.
