Default Ipod/XM Direct Radio Input for RX300

FYI, there's a guy selling information on how to direct input audio to an RX300 on eBay. I e-mailed him and this is his reply:

"You have the same model I have [2002 RX300 w/o nav w/ CD changer] when I made this procedure. I got tired of using the fm transmitter and the cassette connection because of the hiss.

Basically, if you can splice a few wires and either crimp, wire nut or solder them together then this will be easy for you.

What is really cool is you don't have to remove the radio or the CD changer!
I've got an easy step by step way to do this and you can finally hear your MP3 through the great stereo that Lexus put in our cars.!"

I couldn't find the ClubLexus thread where I heard about it, so I'm starting a new one. I have no idea whether or not it really works. I referred the guy to this forum to help spread the word about it (and suggested he sell them more than one-at-a-time).

Default get this..

I don't think I would ever send money to someone on ebay for "information". I'd look at this and see if it is compat. If not, there are other products just google aux input lexus ipod etc.

Default IPod Installation

It would depend on what he is charging. If you did all the work. How much would you charge?

If it works it should be a good deal. Compared to the 300 to 400 hundred dollars for a Vais adaptor.

I agree that it almost sounds too good to be true. But, VAIS has said they tried to make a kit for the 2002 RX300 (my model anyway) and gave up on the project; so that's not an alternative for me.

I just bought an iPod FM transmitter for an 11 hour trip and we had no/zero/zip/nadda hiss or anything else related to the transmitter. I would suggest a new iPod FM trasnmitter before I paid for information and started cutting and soldering wires in my Lexus entertainment system. Maybe if it was a Chevy I might do it.

I have been in the process of building one for my sons's sc. Lexus uses L+, L-, gnd (R+, R-) signals [called differential drive] and most of the audio equipment uses L, R and GND.

I think RX uses the same so here are the things that need to be looked at a bit harder and if some one says it is as simple as using wire twist they are not telling the complete story.

Single ended drive to differential drive [can be acheived by center tapped transformer --isolating type]

Mechanism to switch

Signal level matching.

Still interested? Look up the CL-audio forum.
FM modulators or cassette adapters are the easier alternatives.

I didn't bookmark it, and when I looked for somebody else, I couldn't find it any more. The guy's e-mail address is vlkholmes@comcast.net .

Hey everyone, I bought those directions and they didn't do anything other than tell me what wires were the ones I need to mess with. He also said the way he did it was to put a blank CD in the CD player and hit play on it and then he could use it. If he could refine those instructions they would be helpful but as they are now you need to really know your stuff about wires, etc. It cost me like $8 or so, no big deal but not worth $1 in my opinion.

Skippy911:

If you look through the GS + Audio forum, one member has pictures and good details {although they are for GS and not RX but I willing to bet the system are the same}. I have confirmed that the system are the same for GS and SC.

I hope the DIY GS person gets some royalties out of the $8.00 charged.
