Does anyone know if using a spare tire/wheel with the RX alloy wheel (found on the '01 RX) is lighter than the one found on the '99-'00 spare with the black wheel? The black wheel doesn't seem like your average steel wheel (not sure if it is steel). If no one knows for sure I can weight my spare and have someone weight the '01 for comparisons...we'll see the difference.
Thanks
Thanks

The tire and wheel spare on the 01 is the same as the tires and wheels on the four corners of your RX, so if you weigh one of them you should have your answer. If you would post the difference.

As of now I have the weight of the '00 steel wheel/tire spare at 50lbs.

LexRX,
I just looked at the spare wheel/tire on my '01 RX300
and it is identical to the other four regular wheels/tires.
Didn't know that the spare wheel was different on
'99-'00 RX300s...
I will take it out and weigh it after I get home tonight.
Hopefully I'll post the result here by tomorror morning.
(perhaps I should weigh myself as well... too many
fast food lunches during the last couple of months...)
<grin>

thanks sleepybobcat, remember: weigh the RX's spare tire...not yours!
Lexus decided to put a real alloy in '01. It is such a great idea, and should have been done orginally. I am most likely going to buy one and put it in. I am just wondering about weight difference. I am thinking the alloy will be lighter...should be.

Thanks Obidon That is a smaller difference than I thought, but I am glad the weight is less. The aluminum wheel is probably thicker than the steel spare.
My measurements were on a regular bathroom scale. I weighed it many times (very awkward weighing a wheel/tire on a small bathroom scale ). 50lbs was the lowest the scale showed. Also, my wheel also had the stock Goodyear tire (225-70).
