Default Windshield wiper fluid motor install for Rx300 Instructions.

Part cost me 82 bucks for the part. From the dealer. Wasn't too hard to change.

Located in the front passenger side wheel well.

Pull plastic out near the front corner. Wheel well plastic cover.
'
I didn't need to unscrew anything.

But it might be safer if you don't want to chance cracking the protective plastic.

You should see the motor right in view.

Unplug harness first.

Then pull motor outwards away from the fluid tank. Kinda hard to pull out.

I let my fluid spill all out to flush any debris.

Also poured another cup just incase.

Use a razor and cut the tubing.

Then i used my electric car compressor and stuck each hose in it and flushed it out. About 5 min each.

It was clogged pretty bad.

Then put the hoses on the new pump.

Push the new pump in place.

Plug in harness.

Add fluid and check for leaks.

Took me 20 minutes.

Thanks for the instructions. My 2001 RX has some problem with the rear one. Is that a different motor than the one you installed? Mine sometime works, sometime not at all. I have not figure out why yet. You may give me a hint, please?

There is only one windshield washer fluid pump. Atleast for my 99. Should be the same.

It has two outputs.

Larger hose for the front and smaller for the rear.

If you open the panel and take a look you should see the two hoses on the pump.

You would have to cut the smaller one off with a razor. You can try pulling it off but mine was stuck on good.

Becareful not to cut the pumps hose connector. Should see the bulge.

Use a electric air compressor and stick the hose inside where the tire valve would go and lock the hose inside the attachment.

I have a air compressor in every car i own. I use it when i plug a tire, and routine inflating. Most i see are around 20-30 bucks. A must have in any car.

Run it about 5 minutes. Mine made a wierd whistling noise for the rear.

Also for the front when i had air going thru i took turns covering the driver and passenger side nozzles with my finger so it would build more pressure for the one not covered..

Heres are some pics to make it easier. Passenger side wheel well plastiic cover. I am able to open with just my fingers. Although it pinches pretty good. Plastic seems to be good quality unlike others that crack easily.

Pump pic. Large hose for the front on the left side and small hose on the right for the rear.

The Left hose is suppose to be tucked behind the tranny cooler but i pulled it out for a better pic.

Also the pump is sealed with a rubber gasket, it looks well made so don't worry about breaking in when you remove the pump.

Thumbs up Highlander pump source

To add to this thread, I used the Toyota Highlander pump to replace my RX300 pump that failed. The part number is 85330-20470, $30 cheaper and is identicle to the 85330-14490 part it replaced. Hope this helps.

Found one from autozone , TAAP PUMP - WINDSHIELD WASHER, part no. 5-768. Can it be equivalently used?

Default Autozone Part 5-768 doe NOT work

The Autozone part is NOT a replacement for the RX washer pump. It only has ONE outlet for fluid. Too bad - it's only $17. I had to get my replacement pump (PN 8533-14490) from the Toyota dealer. $79 (ouch). But that's a lot better than the Lexus dealer who wanted to charge >$200 for it installed.

If I remember correctly Irontoad was about $42 for the pump.

On a kind of similar subject, my cousin and I plan to make a modification to lift up the windshield washer fluid reservoir tomorrow, so that the tranny cooler has better flow. May try to reposition the tranny cooler as well (bring it a little more forward)...will post pictures tomorrow once it is done.
