Installing satellite radio
I'm toying with the idea of satellite radio. Has anyone installed one in their rx300 (2001)? Does it take any special skills and what is involved. I don' t know much about this stuff. Thanks

There are all different levels of installation. I have the most simple version: an XM Radio SkyFi where I just put the antenna on the dashboard and get power from the rear 12v outlet. A slightly more complex install routes the antenna cable around the edges, out of sight. The current Skyfi2 has a built-in FM modulator, as does the XM Myfi, which also has its own battery power if you desire.
I've seen pictures of installations where people mount an XM commander or other small unit in where the glasses holder by the rearview mirror is normally. That's vastly more complex.
In my area, I find reception is fine with just the XM antenna sitting on the dash. The new Myfi is so portable you can use it at home, in the car, or anywhere else. It comes with docking adapters for home and car, as I recall.
I'm sure professional installers could do an external antenna (like factory instlalls on Hondas) and more hidden installations.
I find I use my XM radio more at home than in the car, so I like being able to pull it out of the docking unit and taking it inside. I think I'd get the Skyfi if I were to be buying one now. Several other Myfi clones have recently been announced.

In my '04 RX330 I installed an FM Modulated Sirius kit. The sound quality is not the best, but it is good enough for me. I used the Turk antenna on the front left dash, the face under the counsel, and the main unit behind the dash. I will take pictures today, and post them tonight.
