I bought 2001 Rx300 early this year, It has 77,000km on it now, It is covered to 80k .
Does anyone in Canada/Ontario know if the Lexus extended warranty (Platinum Program) price is negotiable and who is giving the best price.
I was offered $1700.cdn for extended warrant when I purchased the RX early this year, but I decided to hold off. The extend warranty offered was 120,000km or 6yrs which ever came first.

The price is not negotiable on the Lexus extended coverage. That's exactly what I paid for my 01 ES with 72,000 KMS. What Lexus dealer did you purchase your RX from? Mine was from Lexus of Richmond Hill, just north of Toronto. I haven't used the warranty yet, but considering the prices of some replacement parts should they fail......I feel very comfortable with the warranty & they cover MUCH more than any 'aftermarket' warranty company. The Lexus dealer would have had to do a much more extensive process to check for things than they did (an example would be they would check the heated mirrors, the black mouldings on the B pillars as one mirror heating element was burned out & both mouldings were starting to fade which they replaced because of the Extended coverage.....over $600 of work right there for parts & labour! that they wouldn't have done if I didn't get the warranty). Much more rigorous inspection process as the new car warranty is going to run out before you know it. So I'm good now till 192,000 kms OR another 5 years.....& it's very close to a 'bumper to bumper' warranty.

Do you have the complete service history on the vehicle? (ALL oil changes accounted for?) & was it a one owner? I ask because the Engne gelling issue applies to the RX 300 as well.....something to consider which might change your mind about getting the extended coverage from Lexus.

Lexusfreak, I too bought my RX300 from Lexus of Richmond Hill, found them very helpfull and accomodating compared to Don Valley who did not really want to sit down and talk about making a deal or showed any interest...I would not recommend anyone go there.

The RX had full service history when I purchased it, I will be taking in for 79k service early next year, and hoping to get the extended warranty then.

You mentioned "192,000 kms OR another 5 years" , the dealership explained to me the warranty was for 6yrs in total or 120k, what ever comes first...I am confused..

RX, Who was your salesperson?? Walter by any chance? Used car manager is Nadir still I think. The powertrain warranty (factory warranty now) is 5 years or 110,000 KMS so you would be only getting an extra 10k on your powertrain does not make sense......Double check with either the Used car manager or the Business office manager. Let me know.....BTW, let me know if you need rustproofing, paint & fabric protection....Lexus of Richmond Hill wanted over $1000 & I know many people in the car business, especially professional detailers.....he can do the entire package for about a third of that. PM me if your intrested.

I wouldn't recommend going to Don Valley North either.....even though both Don Valley North Lexus Toyota & Lexus of RH are owned by the same company.

My contract says it is covered for an additional 120,000 KMS & I confirmed this with both the dealer & Lexus Canada....unless they have changed things on their warranty since January of 2004.

When I purchased my '99 rx I inherited the balance of the extended warranty that the original owner purchased.

I noticed on the original bill of sale that the purchase price of the warranty was $1600 back in October of 1998.

I have since had an issue with Ken Shaw Lexus due to the front suspension (feels like its bottoming out when its colder than 3 degrees celcius...) and the tech test drove the car and said its normal...

Lexus Canada customer service did not provide any further assistance, stating if the tech did not find anything wrong, then it must be normal.

My extended warranty expired on Oct 31/04 and I am now screwed.
I also complained of the tailgate struts not being able to hold up the tailgat when its cold and they said "thats normal"... Btw Lexus canada said the "shocks" that support the tailgate do not fall under the definition of shocks and therefore not covered under the extended warranty. BTW the tailgate struts are $257.00 CAD each, yes, EACH at Lexus and not available aftermarket....

Ladies and Gentlemen,
THE LEXUS EXTENDED WARRANTY IS DESIGNED TO COVER THE COST OF THE COMPONENT WHICH LEXUS KNOWS WILL NOT FAIL WITHIN 160,000KM OR 6 YEARS, ie powertrain, power windows and seat motor, etc...

Can anyone tell I'm pissed...?

My salesperson was Stephen. My RX is due for service next month so I'll talk to service manager about the warranty. I got the paint and leather protection when I purchased the RX, I think I got 50% discount for it.
Thx for the info about rustproofing, etc. I will remember that.

Anytime RX, my guy will do a fantastic job for about 1/3 the price of the dealers. I double checked my extended warranty contract.....I am in fact good till 192,000 kms.
