Default Ticking in center dash when I turn on the AC.

I really don’t want to take the whole dash apart but I will do what I must! Just need a little help. It’s a 2001 first gen RX300. Thank you!

Is the sound fan speed related, if you turn the fan faster does the noise change/stop?
Squirrel cage blowers can get a leaf stuck in then and acts like playing cards in the spokes.

Blower isn't running so that isn't it.

I wonder if it's the same as this one: https://www.clublexus.com/forums/rx-...-rx-300-a.html
It sure sounds just as obnoxious.

The advice is probably the same. Verify battery voltage is good, and then start pulling fuses.

It could be the servo chatter. Take the AC system out of the 'auto' mode.
hint: serach on Modę servo.

Unless if I'm misreading it, the display shows the blower isn't running. That and he also pressed the off button to no effect.

Oh wow that's annoying. lol

I have a very faint ticking on my RX330, almost can't hear it unless complete silence in the car.
Even with AC off it ticks non-stop but if I cange the mode to defrost or anything else I can hear the servos move and it goes away so I think I have a mode servo going bad but atleast I can hear the radio over it. lol

Suggestion: download an app that gives sound spectrum and intensity. Use it to see if you can identify more precisely from where the sound is emanating. There are plenty of free apps. I did this to identify which pulley was squeeling on my Sequoia.

Metal-on-metal will tend to be at the higher end of the spectrum. Plastic on plastic will be mid/low on the spectrum. From the video it sounds like plastic to my ear.

If it’s plastic parts then my guess would be a servo gear. Metal parts then I’m not sure.

I think you have to take out the glove box and go under the dash to where the servo assembliss are. See if the app locates if one is squawking.

Are you sure it isn't the cd changer. That thing ticks all the time.

Do you have a Grom? I have one, and I hear a very faint ticking coming through the audio system when the audio system is on, my phone is connected, and I am not playing any audio from my phone.

Default Ticking in Dash behind Speedometer

Hi Max, it's on my RX330 and it sounds like it is behind the speedometer.
Sounds like a watch ticking and it only does it when the AC is set to blow from the front vents.

I can't hear it when AC is on & blowing because the noise is so faint but when I drive with the AC off I can hear it and it gets annoying after a while so I roll the window down so I don't have to listen it. lol

With the AC off, if I hit the "mode button" and change vents to floor or defrost- I can hear the servos move the flaps and the ticking noise goes away.
I have an aftermarket radio but it has no affect on it so am pretty sure it is a servo in my case.

I have the same problem
it’s not the CD

it’s the climate control. Changing fan speed, temps, auto or not doesn’t help. It’s random. Was annoying as heck. Was going to sell the car. Before fixing jt

searxh for my thread “free rx”

anothe helpful memebrr showed me how to fix it
there is YouTube video

I can’t seem to link here

you need to fix your Servo motors
