Thumbs up mobile phone kit

Good afternoon. This is my first post. I am looking at a 1999 RX 300. Does the 1999 model have the capibility for a mobile phone kit? If so , where can I find this kit and what phone service can you use and what phone?

Yes, the RX300 was wired for a Lexus phone but my understanding is that the Lexus phones are no longer available through the dealer. I don't think you would want one anyway - they are way out of date in features. Since the car is prewired, it is fairly easy to hook up a phone kit's mute wire to mute the audio system when a call is made or received. I have recorded the wire color and location of the mute connection for the RX300 somewhere. If you need it please PM me.

Welcome to CL, gboothe!

As I understand it, the mobile phone kit was only available for a year or two ('99 - '00) here in the states - another great idea overtaken by technology. It consisted of a wired handset and a cradle built into the console, but it had a HUGE drawback - price. If memory serves it was something like $1200 - $1800, plus airtime. That figure may or may not have included installation.

As Kansas said, it was "just a phone" - totally out of date today. Also I believe it was analog only, not the multimode, PCS, or CMDA digital technologies we use today to limit bandwidth (and airtime cost). So, not only was it an expensive purchase, but the airtime plan would be pretty steep today.
