Sounds like you got a sweet deal man! I really like the black! Is it an early or late model '99? What's the month/year on the sticker in the door stop?

Dennis, a belated congrats to you on the purchase of the 1st-gen RX. The truck looks really nice and clean and very different than the condition of your SC I'm sure you have plans for work on the SC and the RX during the wintertime. We look forward to seeing the RX in the next NE meet

get the dealer to check all the fluids, differentials, transfer care, transmission, and look to see if the sludge problem is starting to occur, I WOULD NOT BUY IT, your warrantee will be up really soon on everything

my 2 cents

You should also get a free wax job from the dealer. Looks like there are tons of hairline swirls on the black paint surface.

they performed the following free of charge (i think i posted that they did on the 1st page)
flush and fill radiator
brake fluid bleed
tranmission full flush and fill (tech-II toyota type IV)
engine oil and filter
differential fluids.
lexus dealer checked oil gel problem and came out good (new valve cover gasket)

The warranty already expired on everything. I already own the vehicle. I bought the car with 71123 miles. Now it stands at 75893 miles. It's been 45 days and 2 snow storms and 4500+ miles later I have had 0 problems. (knock on wood). Longest trip was about 300mile round trip.

I see the hairline swirls but it's not as bad as it looks on that picture. I'm sure they are there but the flash from the camera just makes it look really bad. I'm not big on washing cars so swirls don't bother me. But for the spring I will give it a good detail using claybar.

lexusk8: thanks man. I'm getting my SC400 ready for spring but for the spring meet I'll bring the rx300.

If the RX you're looking at has been serviced properly, than there's no reason to assume the vehicle won't run relatively problem free (with continued R&M) for another 75 -100,000 miles. The Toyota Camry (which many of the basic parts of the RX were based on or engineered off of) is about as bulletproof an everyday car as you can get. Change the oil, do the maintenance, and they routinely run into 150,000 miles and beyond.

As an anecdote, my parents have had five Lexus vehicles since the brand was introduced. Three LS400's, an SC430 and an RX300 (now mine). Each LS was driven to 120,000 miles plus before being traded in on the next and each one was as tight, rattle free, and rock solid the day they traded them in as the day they bought them. Toyota/Lexus builds good cars.

My wife and I just bought my parents RX300. It is a 2000 with 54,000 miles on it and other than a few minor scratches and rock chips (inevitable for a truck taken on multiple ski trips to Tahoe), it looks, drives, and rides like brand new. I fully expect at least another 100,000 miles out of it.

As to your second question, you're going to hate this answer but it really depends. For example, where do you live? Resale values are not the same place to place. My advice is to check out kbb.com or edmunds.com. They'll give you a fair barometer.
I hope your kidding saying it will make it another 75 to 100K miles! My 01 has 340K on it and still runs perfect.
