Thinking of building IS-F autocross car
Hello,
Thinking of putting together an IS-F to autocross in the SCCA's "Street Touring X" class, which is for 4-seat cars up to 5 liters. Evos, STIs, and M3s happen to be excluded.
Had a couple questions maybe the experts here can help with-
1. How much front tire can these things fit? We are limited by the rules to 9" wide wheels, and 265mm tires. I know in the rear that won't be a problem, and I've seen people with 9" wheels up front, but don't know the widest tire I can fit. The car would be lowered, with a bunch (probably 2.5 degrees or more) of static negative camber. We are allowed to roll fender lips, but cannot flare the fenders. It would be awesome if I could find a way to fit 265's. Wheels will probably be custom 3-piece so assume offset could be made perfect.
2. What sort of power are these things making with I/H/E and a tune? I've seen some threads on these parts but they never seem to go anywhere. Whoever's got a link to a I/H/E/tuned IS-F dyno will be my buddy!!
Thanks for the help everyone!! I ran an IS300 nationally back in 2005, was a lot of fun, would love to whoop up on 'em with double the horsepower!!

i can't suggest much specific answers to your question, but a few of us (read the car chat) actually think a tuned is350 is much better for autox purposes. the isf is heavy. on autox i never felt the car being very balanced
interesting that the evo, sti, and m3s are excluded?

I too don't think it would be a very good autocross car. To heavy. The biggest you can get on the 9" wheel is 245. Intakes, a few exist and make around 12hp. To my knowledge there are no commercially available headers yet, there are only one-offs and prototypes. It's also an engine out install. Exhausts, there are a few nice ones out there. Tune? well not really, no one has cracked the Lexus/toyota ECU on these. The care is heavy and definitely a luxury car, you would have to pull out a lot of things that make this car nice to get it to fighting weight. (interior, sound proofing insulation, navigation, etc. etc.)
I would look elsewhere.

Hi trackdood,
Agreed, it's probably better suited to the track where it can stretch its legs a bit. Still, the gearing is great for autocross and its competition (3-series E36 BMW, 2.0 WRX, and RX-8) are all quite underpowered, though substantially lighter. I think if I can squeeze some 265's up front, I can maybe make it work. Will look for a non-sunroof car too.
I spoke with some guys from OS Giken yesterday at the San Diego National Tour about the IS-F. They mentioned they were sponsoring a track/time attack car - is that yours? Have you been happy with the Giken in your IS-F? What sort of times have you been able to put down at local tracks, if you don't mind my asking? I used to do a lot of track stuff with my S2000 way back in the day, wouldn't mind getting back out there with the IS.
