To be fair BMW doesnt offer a DCT on their 4series only on the //M4.
Im glad Lexus atleast updated the trans to 8speed - next step is new engine, prob when the refresh happens...

with your knowledge, technology should never need to be evolve. the old 4 speed auto works just as fine when it came out, so why bother with the 6 speed auto? at least for me, if i pay the kind of money for a Lexus that's comparable to BMW or Audi counterparts, i want to have the up to date drivetrain in my Lexus, not because anything wrong with the old tech, but why paying the same $$$ for old stuff.
why should lexus increase price, lower reliability, increase maintenance on a transmission for no increase in performance? This "old tech" shifts as fast as the new tech. Its not the same money for old tech, that DCT costs $3k+ on many cars that offer it. But if you're keen on spending $3k to get a less reliable, more maintenance, and same performing transmission its your money.

talk about taking it out of context

The V-8 is 80% new FYI….The 8 speed is strong, quick and gets rave reviews. A ton of Lexus executives have driven the car(s) recently at Fuji and from what I'm being told they are behind confident in how this car will perform against any competition. They also are pretty adamant they feel it is a stand alone model and will have its own distinctive drive.
I cannot wait.
I cannot wait.
The 5.0 Liter V8 has been heavily reworked inside out. The pistons have been lightened and the internals overall have been lightened and friction has been reduced in order to make the engine rev up faster and higher, headers have been reworked in order to produce more high rpm torque ( and hence more HP) etc. Other things like cylinder management etc. has been added.
That is why Lexus was swapping the IS-F CCS-R V8 with the new engine rather than doing some tweaks to make it same as the RC-F V8.
I never see people saying Lamborghini is using a 11 year old engine since the LP640-4 was using the same basic architecture of the 6.5 Liter V12 that the Aventador currently will be sporting for another 2 years.

Agreed. That is the ignorance I see floating all over the internet that Lexus is "using old engines".
