Its easy for a bunch of people outside to say, "oh, why does it weight so much?"
I am sure engineers have gone through this a million times. They have already done the CF roof. At some point, cost has to come into play. In a perfect world with an unlimited budget, you can do almost anything. We are talking about a car that will probably slot under 70K. Sure, they could have thrown in aluminum body panels but what we are talking about here is an IS coupe, that is entry level luxury coupe.

the M4, C AMG, and ATS-V will all likely be lighter. just because the RS5 is slightly heavier, we shouldnt care that everyone else is lighter by hundreds of pounds?

^^ the MBUSA website shows the C63 at 3,6xx pounds. The ISF on Lexus.com shows 3,7xx pounds. And I thought I read somewhere that the RCF is lighter than the ISF.
Point is, the weight numbers are all over the place.

Because one magazine says 450hp another says 480hp, I'm hoping the official stats from Lexus are lighter. Or hopefully someone did a typo and swapped the 7 and 9 for 3790 lbs lol

I made the comment earlier in this thread about how certain camera angles in photos make the RC F look different than it will appear in real life, and I've been looking at this car a lot today, recalling the first time I saw the IS F in pics. To me, the bulbous hood, fender vents, gaping bumper, side skirts and exhaust all looked rather garish and choppy in photos...almost like a kit car in some respects. I didn't feel like it looked very good, and that Lexus tried too hard to make it aggressive. All of that changed drastically the first time that I saw the car in person: it was all much neater and more cohesive in the sheet metal than it looks in pictures. The fender vents were subtle, but a good hint of aggression, the hood didn't really grab my attention, and the exhaust looked sinister.
I am expecting something similar with RC F, which makes me very excited. The standard car looks beautiful from pictures and with the F modifications, I have a feeling that it will be a show-stopping stunner, not the chopped up kit car that some on other forums are calling it.

The ISF looks very bulbous in photos. But in person it looks elegant and strong.

what we know is that it is based on GS platform... hence the weight... and we also know that IS handles better than F30, despite being heavier.
Nobody is discussing leaked engine technology or torque vectoring differential.
p.s. Europeans say there will be carbon hood as well as the roof and spoler, just not for the USA. they also say that RC-F will start selling first.

Oh my goodness it looks good. I like how its actually much simpler than the RC350 and yet it's still much more aggressive. Those seat buckets are seriously awesome and is obviously inspired by the LF-LC concept.
