my dealer sent me some numbers. finally.
msrp - 73,910 (won't budge on price)
money factor - .0016
residual - 36 months 10k/yr - 60%

surprised he gave me that number for money factor, its not the best but not high. saw somewhere in the forums that some dealers were saying the money factor was around .0026 area.

I'm always surprised at the residuals they quote. They are saying the car would be worth $44k after 3 years, seems low for an F.

Sounds like its going to be expensive to lease an F, Lexus is getting $102.00 a month extra based on the 65% residual I got on IS 350 on my 36 month lease. Lexus is probably assuming most people will not purchase the car at the end of the lease and Im pretty sure they can charge what they want for it if the person leasing it does not buy it. Lexus will make more money on the lease and probably sell it for than the 44K, which I agree with you is low.

If the residual Is low you can always trade in or sell the car at the end and pocket the difference.

Any downsides to purchasing the lease yourself, if residual is crappy, and car is worth a lot more?

No. I've done it before. I usually do an initial lease - it's my "try before I buy" phase, since I'm unbelievably picky about cars. Most cars get turned in after the lease, and I move on to the next one. But I've bought out two because they were the perfect car for me, and enjoyed those cars for about 7 years each.

The only real downside is the initial lease costs more than buying the car outright would, most of the time (when you amortize it out) - if you lease then buy, you'll have lower initial payments, then usually higher payments or for a significantly longer term than what you would have paid just taking out a 5 year loan to start off with.
