RC F vs M4
#106
What on earth do you test drive, because that is just silly. Look at the trap speeds.! Do you know how much more power you would need to add to the RC F to equal the M4 trap speed? A TON. The math is fairly simple but the AUC differences makes things a bit more complicated. Either way AUC power heavily favors the M4.
The proof will be in the pudding. This will all get sorted out WHEN THE PRODUCTION RCF is put to the test.

I say again. Overweight and the speed shows it.

RC F trap speed: 12.9 @ 110.3 MPH
M4 trap speed: 12.2 @ 117.8 MPH
Trapping @ 110.3 MPH with a 476hp NA V8 is...well laughable.

Even a 2008 IS-F trapped higher than a 110 mph and did a 12.6 seconds in the 1/4 mile. The RC-F is indeed faster than the IS-F and it will be substantially higher than the IS-F number. One crappy test with poor launch is not enough to draw conclusions.
IS-F did a 12.7@114 mph back in 2008. The RC-F is much quicker so in a good test. It will trap higher and be quicker than the IS-F.

I'm expecting it to be a superb tune...time will tell. One thing about Yaguchi's engines is that owners can squeeze quite a lot out of them with simple modifications. At least give the guy a chance to get his production car on the road.

His comment on the trap speed is a farce. MotorTrend clearly states a disclaimer that the car had a de-tuned ECU in order to avoid liability due to full standing burn-outs. They clearly state the ECU has been reflashed on the prototypes after their test.
I put the link above of an IS-F pulling a 12.7 seconds@114 mph back in 2008. An RC-F is quicker than the IS-F so it will be quicker in a proper test.

You're absolutely right. But if it's not going to be flat out fast, it better handle and please don't tell me turn in is going to be acceptable in a 4000lbs car. So you're left with neither performance (acceleration) or weight savings for nimbleness.
So what exactly are you left with? A slow, heavy luxo coupe with a sonorous V8 married to DOA chassis and brakes. It sounds like the RC F got the steering right, which is always impressive for an EPS system.

Best of all it looks more expensive, exotic, and bespoke than this thing.

ive seen both the m3/m4 in person. both cars look good and expensive. especially the m3 , it has a lot of road presence . looks like a wide body kit or something. spacers and a drop looks great. looks are subjective especially when both look good. its down to performance at this point.

I mean look at that almost non-existent flat rear fender flare, on a RWD performance coupe?
Swap out the tires, take off the badge, and no one would be the wiser. Even the engine screams gussied up 435i, the car lost a lot of its old unique character.
Fine if a sleeper is what you're after, but a unique attraction of the RC-F over the M4 is that you know its special when you see it and it will command far more attention on the road.

I reckon, the RC-F will be in the 12.2 - 12.4 seconds range. Around 115 - 116 mph trap speed. The prototypes had restrictions on them (as MotorTrend and JoeZ stated) since they were being driven by novice and professionals alike around Monticello so Lexus detuned it a bit to not allow standing start burn-outs. That compromises the launching abilities of the car.

I live by a BMW dealer and see M4s and M3s being test driven all the time. The car could pass for a 435i to the average eye, which itself isn't that interesting to behold.

A standard RC350 looks more exotic and special than an M4.
