Default Should the RC F Get a Stick Shift?

Just posted this on the front page.

I realize that it probably won't happen, but I think it would be cool. How about you?

Yes, the should. If BMW can offer a stick shift, why not Lexus? Aren't they going to make a high horse Toyota Supra? Share the tranny.

Stick shift would be cool but not sure if many ppl would buy it.

The lack of a true DCT option is unacceptable though.
There is a reason Porsche, Ferrari, BMW all use them on their cars.

Any info on the 8sp auto? Hope its good.

drive manual for the first 10 years of my driving, new transmissions are too good, cannot ignore the performance benefits of modern ATs

Definitely NOT. Dead technology, not worth the production effort/cost for so few that would be requested. DCT is the future.

DCT requires a lot more maintenance and isnt as durable as AT. Fast AT fits the bill 99% of the time. Companies need these many speed transmissions to hit mpg targets. I do not want to drive a 8 speed manual, ridiculous.

It's hard to see how they can improve on manuals, apart from dropping in a Dogbox, but then there are NVH issues.

Totally untrue, and FUD. My 12C DCT is sealed unit, zero maintenance, certainly strong and durable to handle 616+ hp AND launch control. But I suspect nothing lasts forever, and something will need replacing, but that's likely over 100,000 miles according to McL.

Your own personal preferences aside, car manufacturers are moving more and more away from manual transmissions. Unfortunately, they're a dying breed. Ferrari doesn't even offer it in their lineup anymore and Porsche says you can't even buy the GT3 with a manual anymore. The take rates on the manuals is so low these days that it's not worth their while as far as cost to research, design, and develop those transmissions.

For a brand like Lexus/Toyota, the take rate will even be less than say BMW. These are the more attainable brands. Brands, such as Ferrari, Bugatti, and McLaren, etc don't even offer a manual in their lineup because having a manual transmission doesn't actually add to the performance of the car. It actually takes away from the intended driving experience.

Let's face it, no manual transmission will ever perform close to the best performing automatic or anywhere near a DCT transmission. Even though I know how to drive a manual and drove my '93 MR2 Turbo for many years, (it only came in a manual when you got the Turbo), I would never buy a manual transmission now a days. Long commutes, crappy traffic jams, getting old, etc. Give me a well developed automatic or better yet, a DTC and I'm happy.

Through in the V160 as an option. Manual is old tech and doubt it will be there it is a thing of the past but would be a nice option.

All super cars are paddle shift and test always show auto are quicker,

Have been daily driving a 6 speed manual car with an 8400 rpm limit for 11 years to work and just about everywhere. Nothing like doing your own rev-matches and heel-toe downshifts. Would not have it any other way. It will stay until I run it into the ground.

Ideally, I would like to have a 6 speed or 7 speed manual RC-F in my fantasy land, but that is not realistic (it will never happen). Since my wife needs to drive as well plus back seat for the baby seat, I am looking at a sporty automatic second option so the RC-F fits perfectly as my wife will be able to drive as well.

Me ripping through gears:

Should definitely have a DCT. I own a V8 M3 with DCT and a 993tt with 6sp manual and find that shifting is overrated. The limited times I even get to try a heal-toe shift does not make up for the joy of snapping up thru the gears with the DCT or the comfort in traffic.

LEXUS is defiantly robbing their customers of a true driving experience with this not being even optional
