I was hoping for just a bit 'more'. Like 480hp at 7300 rpm. The torque curve looks nice, and fuel mileage remains the same though.

Based on the new information, I found this with some detailed pics.

You can see the underbody aero, as well as where the keyhole on the door handle is.

470 maybe rated a little higher than US, like how they rate the RC350 as 314 hp outside of the US. Something to do with how SAE hp is rated. Its a bit semantics because its the same engine either way.

8.1 km/L = 19mpg? I thought the current ISF does better than that?

Officially, the IS F is rated at 16 mpg (city), but a number of members, including myself, get anywhere from there to 19-20. If the RC F is officially rated at 19, I wouldn't be surprised to see it a bit above that, which would be very nice.

Wow! 477 PS is 471 HP and happening a t 7100 rpm , which means 349 ft-lbs @7100 rpm or 90% of its peak torque maintained till redline

That means, the RC-F has a very long torque curve that keeps surging upwards till the redline. That is awesome

p.s. Did Lexus not say the peak torque would be over 393 ft-lbs?

So if max torque is 4800-5600 it has the "Mt Fuji style" torque curve up to 7300rpm like the chief ISF engineer talked about. So you can kind of draw a torque curve where its 391 ft lbs from 4800-5600 then ending with 349 @ 7100 rpm

If the ISF has these ridiculous gains from bolt ons, imagine this engine with the same bolt ons.

2UR-GSE?

From what I remember from Toyota engine naming convention ie wikipedia,
2=2nd generation
UR= engine series, V8
G=performance head with wide-angle valves as opposed to F=economy head with narrow -angle valves( 2GR-FSE)
SE= gasoline D4 direct injection

Compared to the UR V8 in the LS460 : 1UR-FSE

Strangely enough, the 1st generation IS-F engine is also designated 2UR-GSE but the RC-F and IS-F engine are obviously different in terms of hp,torque and fuel economy. Could there be a printing mistake in this preliminary literature?

Yeah, he meant it will start surging upwards somewhere in the midrange. Maybe, around 4000 rpm and hit the peak at 5600 rpm. Then it maintains more or less over 90% of its peak torque to 7300 rpm redline.

p.s. Remember, officially this engine is different from the IS-F engine. Different and lighter internals etc.

This is definitely my next car.

Different countries have different standards. I'm just going by what the ISF is rated at in Japan on the lexus jp website, which is exactly the same.

IS-F was rated in Japan at 423 PS, which is 416 HP so the conversion is fairly direct.

take note that the current 5.0 is 371 @ 5200, so with this new iteration they made the torque curve taller earlier to get it to 391 @ 4800-5600, and maintain a higher torque through the new higher redline. HP rose a lot because the torque doesnt drop off as much as the current 5.0 does after peak. Current one drops off a lot after 6k rpm

Yes, the way this new motor will maintain its torque at higher RPMs is very impressive indeed!

It looks like the new M3/M4 and the RC-F will have very different characteristics on how they deliver their power. I believe I read that the F80 M3 and F82 M4 will make gobs of torque from low to mid-range but not at the higher RPMs. This engine behavior would contrast with the RC-F making gobs of torque from the mid to high RPM range (though we currently don't know how the new motor behaves in the low RPM range). Very exciting news! Now I'm hoping that the curb weight of the RC-F will be no more than the 38XX lb range...
