Default Anyone else take the RCF to Toyota for oil changes?

Just did my 10k oil change at Toyota, next door to Lexus dealer after brake pad change. Full synthetic Pennzoil (bottles from box) with filter otd $90. Prob would be cheaper if I had dealer coupon from mail.

i watched him and told him not to overfill. The F only took 9.5 quarts, after he let all oil drained out.

Lexus disappointed me by over filling it twice, and my frugal a$$ didn't feel like paying 170-200 for dino oil and a bunch of "checks" and free snacks at lounge

that't not too bad of a deal.

I had an oil change at toyota one time with my ISF (i always do it myself), every thing was fine. Bought 2 5 quart jugs at walmart for 48 tax included. Bought an oem filter for 7 dollars at toyota and paid them 13 dollars to change my oil. cheap .

The local Toyota dealer here in the sticks where I'm contracting in NC does mine every 2 months for $60. They do it just fine. They also have to order the filter every time since they don't keep the RC F filter in stock (I'm sure they have the Tacoma filter in stock though).

My only complaint is sometimes they take too dang long. My last oil change last week took them close to 2 hours. I was a little upset when I left.

Personally I will be doing mine myself just so I have the peace of mind of it being done correctly...

I am tempted to do the oil changes myself, heck I have done them on my other cars, but there is a difference with the RCF, it is a filter or cartridge and to get to it you need a special wrench to remove the housing. so the question is what size is that wrench, and would I be able to get one from the dealership?

Yes but do yourself a favor and buy a good one that will last. .. In most cases you get what you pay for..
I'm sure if it's not plastic any would be fine..

Heheheeee, you sure they didn't take it out to some two lane country road for a spin?? LOL 😊☺😀😁😃

This again reaffirms the fact that even Toyota dealer will not "RISK" it by using the "SIMILAR" CHEAPER TUNDRA V8 oil filter. If the two oil filters are EXACTLY the same, then the Toyota dealer would have surely just go ahead and use it since they already got it in inventory.

What do you have to keep or have proof of when doing your own oil change to keep the warranty valid? anyone know?

I would imagine that a receipt for the oil filter would be enough? What else are you going to do with it? I wouldn't be using the Tundra oil filter though.

I believe Toyota dealers have access to Lexus Drivers and input services performed.

Yes, they do. But the OP asked about proving DIY oil changes.

You can make entries into your service record yourself too. But it states who made the entries. It is advised to keep proof on anything you enter if you want to prove it later because simply making an entry yourself is not proof of anything.

I take high resolution pics with my phone with GPS data and date AND send it to myself via email to time stamp the pics. Pics include my receipts for the oil filter and two jugs of 5 quarts of the proper oil. AND pics of the actual physical oil filter WITH the OIL REMOVED OIL FILTER and the two jugs of the 5 quarts of the proper oil, AND the odo on the dash display. I email all the above to my self.

One more step you COULD do is to send the used oil sample to an independent third party like Blackstone for an oil analysis.
