Default Dealer quoted $400 to install Borla exhaust on the phone today

I didn't think that was all that unreasonable for the dealer.

For those who cannot do it themselves...is there any other real option for those cars under warranty?

Installing an after market exhaust by a third party shop does not void any warranty, except maybe the exhaust system itself. Lexus also has to prove the aftermarket exhaust and install caused the exhaust issue.

Does the $400 comes with Vaseline? If you take it to a muffler shop, most will try to charge $200 just bc you drive a flashy Lexus. Bring your car in to a mom and pop shop and it should be around $100 for the 75 min install.

Anyone out there knows how to replicate the exhaust note (firecracker sound) of the Jaguar F TYPE on the Lexus RC-F ? I like the firecracker sound of the F TYPE.

Or maybe I should just sell my RC-Fand get the F TYPE instesd? Not sure how reliable the Jag is? During a review by a journalist, the Jag overheated and steam came out of the hood vents!!! See below.

Check out the following on the Jag F TYPE SVR:

That's far too high, it's a 2 hour job max and that's only because they have to remove a cross member to get the factory exhaust (front section with cats) off of the car.

You will never get a naturally aspirated V8 to sound like that with just the exhaust. You spend and additional 50K to get a steamer (overheats), but for the $ nothing sounds better then a NA V-8 with a good exhaust. Listen to clip. 1st a RCF then an ISF.

Go to an independent shop... should be an hour job, it's simple bolt-on. Max 1.5hours should they need to wait for the exhaust to cool off. The brace comes off easily my exhaust was done in about an hour for $100.

Installed my meisterschaft in one afternoon. I think anything over $200 to install a bolt on replacement exhaust is too much!

Most places should charge $200-250. But as posted, its pretty simple bolt on and you could probably find someone who needs the work to do it for less.

I would say you should only pay a $100.

Installing an exhaust only takes about a hour!

My dealer only charged me 200 for the install. I have the Apex's Cat Back system. It was basically for 1 hours worth of labor, which is already in their books. Here in CA labor is 195/hr. I personally would have done it myself, since it is a direct bolt on using the factory bolts, but I didn't want to potentially have any future problems with the dealer, or the law, if some officer wanted to give me crap for changing my exhaust. I could show him the receipt showing the dealer did it and escape any further scrutiny.

any aftermarket exhaust is already illegal especially in CA, regardless dealer install or not.

Actually in CA it is not illegal to change your exhaust as long as it meets a few conditions. As long as you do not violate CARB requires you are ok, as long as you do not remove your Cats you are ok, and as long as you do not install a whistle tip, and the car is not louder than 95db you are ok. Here is an except taken from the CA vehicle code regarding exhaust and sound.
Exhaust Systems: Whistle-Tip Prohibition
27150.3. (a) A person may not modify the exhaust
system of a motor vehicle with a whistle-tip.

Modification of Exhaust Systems: Sound Level in
Compliance
27151. (a) No person shall modify the exhaust system of
a motor vehicle in a manner which will amplify or increase
the noise emitted by the motor of the vehicle so that the
vehicle is not in compliance with the provisions of Section
27150 or exceeds the noise limits established for the type of
vehicle in Article 2.5 (commencing with Section 27200). No
person shall operate a motor vehicle with an exhaust system
so modified.
(b) For the purposes of exhaust systems installed on motor
vehicles with a manufacturer's gross vehicle weight rating of
less than 6,000 pounds, other than motorcycles, a sound level
of 95 dbA or less, when tested in accordance with Society of
Automotive Engineers Standard J1169 May 1998, complies
with this section. Motor vehicle exhaust systems or parts
thereof include, but are not limited to, nonoriginal exhaust
equipment.

^^^^In reality that's not true. If the smog testing station is doing it's job, you will not pass a smog test in California unless you know someone. Read this:
