Default Would you buy an RC F that has had auto body work?

There are a lot of RC Fs on the market, so the answer to this is easy for me (I would not buy it).

However, would you? Consider that the work was done at a very reputable body shop and the front bumper was repainted, and the price of the car is the same as others on the market. Just curious to see what members of this forum would do. Would you try to get the car at a lesser price or just keep on searching?

Note that the carfax is clean.

I wouldn't unless it was so deeply discounted I couldn't say no. Anything that shows on the carfax is a complete resale killer

What if it doesn't show up on carfax and it is guaranteed to not show up?

If I knew about it I I still wouldn't. If the repair affected a vin numbered part it would be easily found in a simple pre purchase inspection

I would if it was discounted more than what a certified used RCF was going for. It would also depend on why it was repaired. For example, I had my dogs scratch up the front bumper and fenders of my Mazda 3. I had to take it in to get repainted and repaired through comprehensive insurance. No accident, no mechanical damage to the car but it still shows up as being repaired by a body shop.

On resale or trade, any potential buyer could and should use a device to scan the car's surfaces for any imperfections or differences in the paint.

My point is that any defect that was repaired will show up.

Keep in mind most Used cars that Dealers sell will have bumper's resprayed not because they were in accidents, but they rather would want the car to look presentable without scuffs, rock chips..etc especially when they are selling a $60k plus car.

No one would want to spend $60k on a car that has scratches, chips on the bumper which are inevitable...You could get a rock chip on your brand new car as soon as you drive off the lot.

However, i would be hesitant to purchase one that has real body work done like Body panels (i.e. Fenders, hood, door, roof..etc)

If this guy bought a salvaged RCF to be re-built: (https://www.clublexus.com/forums/bui...-and-mods.html), I'm sure someone will buy a(n) RCF that just had some body work.

It would depend on extent of damage. But even then, and even if priced accordingly I would probably walk away.

Cosmetic damage, I'd consider it if the price is right. Beyond that into the structure, no.

At an extremely huge discount and only if very minor damage. Car Fax don't mean squat and dealers and most savy purchasers know that. I have seen a whole lot of cars with serious damage and a clean fax. Can be kept off car fax so always get a PPI if purchasing a higher end vehicle. One can tell if paint work. Candidly, I would not purchase any high end sorts car that has been hit unless we are talking super steep discount . . . maybe $42k for very light damage.

I noticed the same thing about a year and half ago while shopping for a pre-owned car for my middle son. Now I don't rely too much on a Car Fax report.

Good Thread. My car got hit from behind. About $10K in damage. How much should I ask the insurance company to compensate for "diminished value"?

The chrome tip covering got pushed in. I think they can just pop it back in place.
