anyone else ever notice this?????
apparently the Tach in the RCF changes the Redline area depending on the engine oil temp:
this is the cluster on a cold start-up in all modes:
this is the cluster when the old oil is at normal operating temp:
I watched it this morning, the red bar slowly moves from the 5000 rpm range to the 7200 range as the oil temp comes up.
engine temp was at full operating temp within a few minutes, but the redline didn't change until the oil temp started to rise.
not sure if it has been point out before, but I found it to be kind of a cool feature.

Nope. My previous E92 M3 had an analog cluster, but with a perimeter 'bar' outside the tach, just around it. It was used to show both reduced cold redline, and set speed when in cruise control. Having said that, you don't need to show a reduced redline to have it, just like most cars now have rev limiters in neutral well below redline. My guess is a lot of cars have cold redline in their ECUs now, even when not showing it. It only makes sense.

guess it's just me, coming from American cars, these types of features are not on them.
yes my Camaro had a reduced redline when cold of 4000rpm, but there was nothing to tell me such, but mashing the pedal right after sitting all night the car wouldn't go past 4k.
again, new to me and pretty neat..

Sorry to necro an old thread, but has anyone verified that the physical rev limit is lower or is this just a visual reminder? really cool feature, I want to emulate this on my ADU5 ( digital dash) for my Supra.

Yes the rev limit is actually lower. The rpm limit is keyed to both oil and coolant temps in the ecu.

My favourite feature is the heartbeat. Unlock the car, get in a press the brake. The small analogue speedo starts to pulse in ‘anticipation of the car coming to life’. Whatever, its a cool feature.

haven't noticed that, I will look next time. Is it year specific? I have a 2015, still getting familiar with the car.
